Cockpit engine noise adjustment

Featured Replies

Compared to the C90, the B200 engine noise is almost nil, having flown a few hours in the real one I know it's somewhat nosier that the default B200 sound settings. How do you tweak up the volume settings in the sound cfg file without turning up the speaker volume on the computer?

Great question!, and yep that's true!, there's a big difference for the engine cockpit noise compared to the C90!...the last time I talk with Carenado, they said in the upcoming SP, the sounds will be adjusted...so we have to wait!

Hi flying_Bob,

thanks for the info, bit reluctant to fork out money for something that should already be included in the standard model though.

I spend a few hundred hours each year in BE20s and the engine noise is about right if you ask me. That's when wearing a high quality ANR headset though!

Can you specify the correct wav file to modify?

If its like most planes, there are many engine sound files that one would have to do this to. I don't own the plane you refer to so can't really help too much there.

Hi everyone,

I did a long research about the B200 engine noise. Now after all I got back to the Carenado sounds from the (indeed great) TSS sounds.

The B200 is siginificant calmer than a C90, the cabin has been constructed with this intention surely besides others.

I found this video in youtube, it was taken by a video-camcorder positioned behind the pilots and thus of course WITHOUT any NR-headset and if you ask me it definately sounds pretty close to the Carenado-B200-sounds!!! So IMHO Carenado do really take care of details when creating addons, this was no bug or anything, it was totally intended to sound like this!

E.g. you can hear the clicks being rather loud compared to the engine noise .... etc...

Btw many thanks to the Video-author for all his great KingAir videos he put onto youtube for us enthusiats!

The only complaint I would have is that the aircondition beeing too loud. You can help yourself by reducing volume with some freeware tools like audacity or simply just replacing the sound with an aircondition-file from any other addon you might have using an aircondition. Theses "extra" - sounds are found in the FSX/sound- folder and the corresponding subfolder for any special addons and for the Carenado B200 the subfolder SoundCarb200 - folder and the concerning file is AC.wav (Subfolder SoundCarb for the C90B if you have) .

Happy simming!

Best regards,

What you need to do is to either adjust the existing sound in the sound.cfg file or make your own .wav file and then insert and adjust that into the sound.cfg file.

There is very little info out there regarding the sound.cfg setup. It's all down to your perception. without the FS sound studio it's almost impossible to do. You'll need that for sure.

This is an example of just one sound element from the .cfg file:-

[COMBUSTION.1.07]

filename=VC10_COMPRESSOR_INSIDE

flags=0

viewpoint=1

rparams=0.068,0.638,0.96,1

vparams=0,0,0.033,14.894,0.241,38,0.540,38,0.630,51,0.865,2,0.982,6.5,1,26

link=COMBUSTION.1.08

viewpoint=1 indicates the sound is heard internally i.e. from the cockpit view

rparams=0.068,0.638,0.96,1 indicate the rate of change of pitch

vparams=0,0,0.033,14.894,0.241,38,0.540,38,0.630,51,0.865,2,0.982,6.5,1,26 indicate the volume envelope.

Be aware that the engine sounds are linked only to the throttle. Airspeed and altitude have no effect which for jet engines is a problem as compressor noise diminishes with increased altitude and airspeed.

Arezone B200 soundpack, interior sounds are very very very close to the real deal, almost the same, very quiet and not noisier as Carenado's...

Are the alternative sounds included better?

It's funny - I find the cockpit noises to be great. It is when I switch to F11 view that I get blasted out of my chair. I have tried fiddling with the sound.cfg file settings for viewpoint 2, but haven't got it right, at least not yet. I understand there is a huge difference in a sound level of 10000 and 8000, with 8000 being almost inaudible.

See, you can still be a tweaker running P3D!    :lol:
