We have been blessed with many releases during 2012, with more to come.

Hi Appliance,

that is one side of the medal, indeed. Fortunately, there are some nice sceneries priced at 15 or 20 EUR - like the Skysoft products - instead of 30 or 40, furthermore I try to use discounts at simMarket if possible (for instance if one buys two or more products). As you did obviously, I invested in many Southern American sceneries this year, as rememberance to my great journey to Chile and Argentina five years ago (liked to be at the southern hemisphere when we have winter here in Europe...). So I think we can meet at MHTG, SPZO, SLLP or SCEL this "southern season".

On the other side I only got to know of some of the best FS2004 add-ons since I take part in this forum actively. Before, I checked the Avsim library regularly, and sometimes I found an add-on I was interested in. I had no idea of things like FSHotSFX or AES before; now my FS2004 is unthinkable without these. AES was a further boost to buy sceneries... and so on. So I see this forum as the main cause of my 2012 FS2004 evolution.

I am a civil servant in the German Bundesland Saxony (dealing with catastrophe protection, flood protection etc.), so money is not the biggest problem (although I'm going to build a house the next years and needing it otherwise. But some EUR each month will be there for FS add-ons, I think). Time is more problematic...

Yes, I read your post about not being bored, and I believe I seconded it. It will take me months visiting only all the airports I bought this year, not to mention all the airports I still could buy for FS2004.

Trabants have lots of character ... like the old FIAT 500

That's true, and I know a lot of people restoring old Trabants and driving them just for fun. Otherwise, if you sit in a Trabant these days you can't imagine anymore that until 1989/90 you found it quite normal to sit in a car having technical standards of the 60ies. Even the Soviet or Czech cars, though a little bit oldfashioned and outdated, were much more advanced.

Yes, I also enjoy the forums and find the FS2004 flavour the most relaxed and informative!

I see I previously inadvertently uploaded a giant BMP key plan for which I apologise.

For the sake of completeness, here is the smaller version:

China-2.jpg

I've come to the end of my Chinese exploration for the moment.

Perhaps I am superstitious, or maybe just suspicious, but my flightsim has been misbehaving since I installed the Skysoft sceneries.

This could be totally co-incidental of course (perhaps a Windows update, even) but I have removed them, and restored my computer to a date prior to their installation.

Time will tell...

Satisfied?

By the way - not a single Chinese airport is AES'ed until now. I think that this should change very soon. Especially ZBSJ and ZLXY really deserve AES, don't they?

Imaginesim VHHH and Fly Tampa Kai Tak have ARS support.

Harald how come you're not in New York ?

Last time I was in Germany some 12 years ago was as a guest of Miele, Gutersloh in Westphalia. Flew into Hannover, traveled through Cologne, boated down the Rhine and flew out from Frankfurt/Main. Guess what German airports get the most use? :P A magnificent week still providing many happy memories of your country.

I note your interest in cycling. Although very dangerous in congested Sydney, joyful here in flat Ballina and the local Council has established many cycleways ... most of the residents now actively cycle; the elderly/disabled use mobility scooters.

The airports were closed there!

I really have to admit that I forgot that some Chinese airports haven't a ICAO Code beginning with "Z". Sorry for that. I use AES at VHHH; I don't use VHHX as it doesn't exist anymore.

but my flightsim has been misbehaving since I installed the Skysoft sceneries.

Since I decativated the file named above, I haven't seen any problems with my FS2004. I have to mention, that I installed these add-ons into a sandbox first (it's a normal installation process though, with inserting product key etc.) and then copied the files into their appropriate places. This prevents from unwanted changes to the OS; and if the scenery doesn't work correctly, one can simply delete it - together with the corresponding entry in scenery.cfg - manually.

Within the installation routine, I unchecked the option "update from Chinese server" or so.

Your map seems to show quite all "ICAO code Z---" Chinese airports which are provided at present with a high standard, payware or freeware, except ZWSH. For completing it, although not Chinese, I would like to suggest you taking a look at this scenery - hasn't got that high standard, but it is quite enjoyable with a realistic AI traffic:

Cycling is great. I crossed the Alps with a roadbike in 2009; this year I made a really wonderful mountainbike trip in the Caucasus (Georgia).

Nice to hear about that. EDDK is my favourite airport here in Germany beside my home port EDDC (hopefully it comes out with German Airports 1 as a new edition in 2013) and EDDT, while I never flew to EDDV, and I don't like EDDF very much because of its giant dimensions.

I wish you all a nice time flying in China or elsewhere!

Yes I didn't get around to ZWSH. maybe when I get back to eastern Europe...

Interesting that someone attempted Pyongyang (although by his own admission, not accurate).

I hadn't ever thought of flying there, looking at GE there appears to be one single solitary aircraft on the ramp!

Before leaving the Chinese thread, there is one other very comprehensive scenery set nearby:

the El Formosa series for Taiwan, all available in the library here.

I've been working through these over time, and adding local AI as I go.

A very satisfying place to fly: GA, military, and airline.

Hi to all and happy new year!

Quite new Skysoft sceneries not yet mentioned in this thread:

ZJSY Sanya Phoenix (payware, SimMarket)

ZSNT Nantong (freeware, since yesterday at http://www.avsimrus.com/f/fs2004-sceneries-44/skysoft-simulation-zsnt-nantong-xingdong-airport-47687.html)

Thanks for the heads-up Harald and all the very best to you and yours for 2013.

Whilst I purchased Sanya Phoenix upon release, and requested AES for it over at the Aerosoft forums, ZSNT went un-noticed. You are too kind Sir bringing this to front-of-head.

Downloading now.

Capt_Sig_Day.jpgmce_forum_banner.jpg

Thanks Sir for your kind wishes. New Year Greatings from the frosty Dresden* to sunny Ballina!

* Thats why I undertake a FS2004 southern hemisphere tour every northern winter. At this time I'm with my new DF 727 in Bolivia and Chile. Will surely come to Australia within the next weeks. China will be visited when spring comes to northern hemisphere.

By the way Skysoft seems to release a freeware airport after every payware airport they have made. That is a very fine attitude. AES for their airports would even be better. But since AES 2.26 didn't come "end of December" as recently announced, and since Oliver Pabst didn't post within the AES forum for weeks now, I'm a little bit worried...

No news is good news, eh Harald?

I'm sure the next AES will feature all the missing people animations, cargo loading on the left side etc. etc together with all the requested airports being completed.

.I'm daydreaming of course but Oliver IS slack, no other word for it.

By the way John Ross has a nice rendition of Ballina/Byron Bay Gateway airport (as it is now known) in AVSIM library: http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=YBNA&CatID=fs2004&Go=Search

We receive visits from Dash 8-300/400, Saab 340B, Airbus A320, Boeing 738 and Embraer EMB170 as well as plenty GA aircraft and helicopters. Feel free to drop in for some vodka when you do visit our shores. You will be most welcome mate.

Capt_Sig_Day.jpgmce_forum_banner.jpg

Thanks again. The picture of that Ballina scenery looks promising! Today when I'm home from work will be the day of new sceneries.

In my AI traffic I have flights of Jetstar A320, V Australia B738 and GA of course. Will add Regional Express Saab 340 at this opportunity.

I could bring with me a bottle of fine Elbe wine when I once arrive.

Totally off-topic, but nice conversation!

A little add-on information regarding ZSNT: The installer downloaded from avsimrus is in Chinese, so it takes a little imagination to run it. (Maybe the installer uploaded at avsim.com overnight is in English now). Look at the symbols to find "install all" and "install customized" options. When installing customized, you can choose phototerrain as option.

After a first test, this phototerrain is no must. Many nice blue roofs again, but depending on your FS2004 ground textures it fits not very well with the surrounding area. The airport scenery itself has the quality we know Skysoft for: excellent. Wasn't able to do further tests (CTD problems etc.), these will follow when time goes by.
