Why I like MS Flight

Featured Replies

Quick summary as to why I love MS Flight:

Better graphics (by far)

Better performance

More realistic flight model

Incredible lighting (fly low early in the morning or late at night and you'll see what I mean!

More stable

Better sounds (by far)

More realistic water landings.

Can bounce off water with tundra tires.

Better crash effects (better collision model - can scrape trees)

Trees look far better

Water looks far better

More realistic wind and turbulence effects.

Better clouds

Better aircraft graphics overal (shadows, appearance of glass, internal lighting/reflections/feel of immersion in aircraft, and yes I'm comparing with available payware)

I don't need ATC

I don't need heavy iron - it's flying for fun, not for procedural practice

Better ground handling

To be honest after looking at the poll I was surprised that so many don't seem to rate MS Flight, but then I realised that many probably don't do it for simple visual flying, but for procedural flying.

Having said all that to me the physics is *by far* the most important aspect of any sim, hence my love for other sims like Rise of Flight. I won't touch Aerofly because of it's lack of flight fidelity.

So... what are your reasons for voting MS Flight, for those that have...

And you're comparing that to what? FS2002?

CASE: Fractal Terra Silver CPU: AMD R5 7800X3D 5.0Ghz RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 GPU: nVidia RTX 4070 Ti SUPER · SSDs: Samsung 990 PRO 2TB M.2 PCIe · PNY XLR8 CS3040 2TB M.2 PCIe · VIDEO: LG-32GK650F QHD 32" 144Hz FREE/G-SYNC · MISC: Thrustmaster TCA Airbus Joystick + Throttle Quadrant · MSFS2024 · Windows 11

you sure you are not really jcomm? LOL

While I agree with most of your list, the main reason Flight isn't high on the voting list is it is a dead platform, so no point in getting to excited.

Now for the flip side

no dynamic weather

only two areas to fly in

on 3rd party addons

no SDK

existing aircraft with no cockpits

dead world ( no people, vehicles, wildlife)

no more development

The main reason for better performance is because of the lack of most of these features and no 3rd party support.

If MS had included the whole world, I would probably still be using Flight

Anywoo, glad you are still enjoying what you do have!!

Best, Michael

And you're comparing that to what? FS2002?

Perhaps you didn't realize you were posting on the Flight forum. Perhaps you don't know about the poll mentioned in his post, or you'd know exactly which sims he was comparing to.

James, I have to agree almost 100% with everything you wrote. Flight really is that much better in all those areas. I'd prefer more precise ground steering, but the crosswind affects while taxiing are really good. Turbulence effects are about the same as gusting wind effects in FSX. Flight's fair weather clouds aren't all that great, but the other weather themes have wonderful clouds, and individual weather effects far surpass anything I've seen elsewhere.

That being said, I voted for FSX. That's because I like to fly other places besides Alaska and Hawaii, in GA aircraft that don't exist in Flight (helicopters and gliders for example), and I prefer the more random real world weather. Also, I prefer FSX's autogen to Flight's: more colorful and varied, and there's lots of it if you have the sliders maxed.

I did truly love Flight, flying it exclusively from the time I got into the beta to shortly after it was cancelled. Much of Flight's appeal was in its potential.

the main reason Flight isn't high on the voting list is it is a dead platform

Sorta like FS9? No platform is dead as long as people are flying it.

If MS had included the whole world, I would probably still be using Flight

Agreed!

I actually think the original post was fine. Its where we will likely take it after that, that has no purpose. At this moment in time, saying you like FLIGHT! in this community is like making loud Meows at a Dog convention.

It wont end well because........

Why does it seem like every time a Flight hater posts on the Flight forum, some kind of argument occurs?

Everyone has their own opinions, leave it at that.

Flight is better on all cylinders except the living world, when compared to the default of any other "simulator" MS has released.

FSX may have a lot of the "better" features included into it, Flight is better in terms of graphics, performance, and overall play in terms of default with NO Tweaks.

Taking a screenshot in Flight is like taking a screenshot in FSX. except with REX running in FSX.

Flight runs very smoothly at 30 FPS without any tweaks, while it takes a bunch of tweaks just to get FSX running smoothly above 10 FPS.

What else could I say? Flight is better than any other "simulator" MS has released.

People are criticizing Flight for lack of places to fly to, lack of cockpits, and lack of planes with cockpits.

Can you chill out? Given that the game came out FREE, what else could you ask for?

How much money have you spent on your number one "simulator"? (FSX)

$50?

$100?

$500?

$1000?

I can guess that most people who want the "best" Flight Simming experience probably spent between $200 and $1000 USD just to make it better.

How much did people spend for Flight?

The average person that uses Flight as their number one "simulator" probably spent in between $60 and $65 USD. Plus, the stuff that they bought were made by MS. The quality was so much better than FSX.

The stuff that people bought in FSX were made by 3rd party developers, who specialize in what they are doing. Of COURSE they would have better quality products than what MS made. MS developers are just 4-5 people who specialize in what they are doing, so give them credit. What they released were more realistic than FSX default scenery and planes.

I am not saying this because I am in favour of Flight. I'm saying this because there's enough evidence to prove that FSX is worse than Flight in terms of default. When it comes to 2012 in Flight Simming, FSX outdoes Flight by a lot simply because there are a lot of 3rd party developers supporting FSX. If Flight had an SDK, most of the 3rd party developers would probably move into Flight at one point and leave FSX behind.

Everyone has their opinions. If you hate Flight, leave it to yourself. If you hate FSX, leave it to yourself. You should not be insulting other people and what they think by expressing your opinion in a rude manner.

Of course, I have my opinion, and I think if Aerofly FS and Flight combined, they would outdo FSX default wise and with 3rd party addons (scenery wise) by a long shot. It's not like it will happen, but we'll see.

I am by no means intentionally insulting people, but if I did, please just message me. I am just saying what I believe is the truth about FSX and Flight, and every other Flight Simulator out there.

Well said.

I believe the biggest "haters " of Flight spent 1000 bucks on FSX and are still unhappy.

I did vote for MSFlight and just continue to love the feel of the thing. And it is low and slow flying that I really like. I don't care for ATC or airliners. I don't even mind the empty world. It is just fun flying. I am also working into AeroflyFS and I just hope it is given a chance to grow. I have been involved with flight simming since day one and have seen it all and can say no more.

We have been through all this many times, enough already!

Well said.

I believe the biggest "haters " of Flight spent 1000 bucks on FSX and are still unhappy.

I have ATC, traffic, 3rd party aircraft with modeled systems, and great graphics in FSX. Now tell me, why would I be unhappy? That's a preference...

I fire up Flight every now and then to putt around in the Stearman. Flight isn't everyone's bag, my friend (the irony being the agression you show towards FSX users). Get a grip! (I am, of course, referring to the removed post)

MS Flight is number one. Only a jack**le would think FSX is even comparable. You people really need to get your heads out of your backsides. FSX is absolute shyte..let it die already.

Spend hours on end tweaking it and it still looks like crap.

CRAP CRAP CRAP...worse than Xplane.

Oh please, won't you tell us how you really feel.

I admit I did a little tweaking. But since ive been using fsx I've spent maybe 2 hours tweaking if that. Word Not Allowed's guide and settings.

And I get to fly over beautiful terrain in cockpits, anywhere (thats right, the whole world) I want with locked fps at 30. Low and slow VFR or airliner IFR.

I know some people like to bad mouth FLIGHT here in front of everyone, I never have as I don't really care. But your post was pretty unacceptable to me,if you were trying to strike a nerve with an fsx user you did it.

Im not going to waste anymore time talking to about this.

Lee

Which just goes to show that we all have opinions. Can we leave it at that?

I hope my post wasn't taken as a criticism of Flight. I still think Flight was the best flight sim I've ever used.

I understand the OP is a new member but Isnt this a subject that was beat to death months ago and not at all worth rekindling?

I really liked his post. Also, it was a copy of the post he made on the poll about which flight sims we used the most. I was surprised that more people didn't vote for Flight. Had the poll come out before Flight was cancelled, I'd have voted for Flight instead of FSX.

So why am I flying FSX if I loved Flight so much? Well, in just over 400 hours of flying, I'd already been everywhere twice, the aerocaches were having problems, and other flights would have been too much of "more of the same". I got the urge to fly a sailplane, so I bought DiscusX. Then I needed to get some time in on a Cessna 172 in preparation for a possible real world flight. I flew a bit in both Alaska and Hawaii in FSX, mostly for comparison - Flight is worlds above FSX in those areas. Then I wanted to recreate a flight I'd read about, Florida to Washington State in a LSA (similar to the Icon), and even with a similar plane I wouldn't have the same terrain and scenery in Flight. I got TrackIR5 while I was still flying in Flight, and wanted to see how it worked in the familiar aircraft of FSX.

If the aerocache of the day worked properly, with a new aerocache every day, you can bet I'd be spending at least an hour in Flight every day to collect them.

Agree or Disagree I don't care. All I care about is peace and respect.

You respect people, others respect you back.

The FSX vs. Flight thing should be discontinued and banned. Respect the two for what they are.

FSX will be FSX forever, no one can change that. Flight will be Flight forever, no one can change that.

At one point, someone may come up with a piece of software than can covert FSX software to work with Flight.

Just respect the two for what they are. Talking about FSX vs. Flight is another way of saying "I don't care if I waste my time".

Can't people just chill out? Simming is VIRTUAL and not REAL.

FSX vs Flight is like comparing a 747 to an RV6A. There are a lot of advantages and disadvantages between the two. You choose your own side, or stay neutral between the two. No point in making such a big fuss about it. It's not like the world's gonna blow into pieces if either or wins. In fact, there is no winning or losing. It's about the fun you have playing your games.

Agreed^ And on that note, I'm locking this thread until Rick wakes up to check the forums and decide on an action. I've already had to clean up some completely unacceptable posts.
