November 10, 201213 yr It's time for an upgrade and I'm trying to decide between I5 3570K or the I7 3770K. The only cpu-intensive application I will run is FSX. I have read that FSX is a 32 bit application that does not utilize hyperthreading, so is there any advantage to using the 3770K? I will be using an ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard and will overclock to about 4.5 ghz. I only use 1 monitor at 1920 x 1080. Any advice is appreciated. Dale Dale
November 10, 201213 yr Hi Dale, I just did a home build with the same motherboard and I went for the i5 3570K and put the extra $$ into an Asus GTX 660 TI. I ran for a few days to ensure everything was stable and started to OC. I went to 4.1 GHZ then to 4.5 GHZ and the thing doesn't even brake into a sweat !! I did also put a Antec 920 water cooler on the CPU and that thing is awesome. So far at 4.5 GHZ I haven't seen the temp go over 34 degrees. I considered the i7 also but went for the i5 after asking for advice on here. November 10, 201213 yr Totally agree with Richard. I am glad I did the 3570K with a good cooler. It is fast and very stable and I have not even overclocked it yet... Way better frames and smooth all the way around. Jeff NorthLink VA - Commerce & Community in Northern North America!
November 10, 201213 yr Guys, after reading your comments I'm starting to worry. If you see my specs you can see I've overclocked my I5 to 4.7 and i have a water cooler, but my temp don't go down 75 when flying. Do I have to really worry? November 10, 201213 yr I am assuming your talking Celsius Right? I understand anything below 80 Celsius is OK, I maybe wrong though. What case do you have? I upgraded my case to a cooler master. Also what water cooler do you have? I think that can also impact the cooling alot. I spent $100 on mine and the heat exchanger has 2 120mm fans on it Richard Richard i7-12700K | Noctua NH-D15S Black Version | MSI Pro Z690 - A | 32 GB DDR4 3600 | Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 | 1TB WD Blue NMVe (MSFS 2020) | 500 GB WD Black Gen 4 NVMe | 4TB WD Black Conventional | Fractal Design Torrent Case | Seasonic 1000W Gold Plus PSU | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Honeycomb Throttle | Airbus Side Stick | Virpil Rudder Pedals | Sony X90K 55 Inch TV |
November 10, 201213 yr Can anyone who has had experience with both share which overclocks better? (Higher Ghz, lower temps.) ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee
November 10, 201213 yr Yes, 75° C Well, I have the Corsair H60 Water Cooler, and I change my case to a Sentey Arvina with 6 coolers. I also heard that below 80 is ok, so when you were talking about 35° was F or C? Matias SorcinelliCHECK MY CHANNEL!!! - http://www.youtube.com/user/masneoquil
November 10, 201213 yr 35 degrees F, man wouldn't that be sweet. 888 Ghz here we come! ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee
November 10, 201213 yr Author Right now, I'm planning on going with a GTX 660 TI for the GPU, the 670 would be better, but I doubt I would see the difference in FSX. Back to the processor - I know that the faster the CPU, the better for FSX, but does the 3770K have more bandwidth or communication pipelines to the GPU when compared to 3570K? Dale Dale
November 10, 201213 yr Commercial Member I think I read on a hardware forum the 3770 was found to be around 6/5 the throughput of 3570 floating point/other calculations. Maybe notice some minor improvement with FSX or maybe tiny bit less heat to do the same work. Not sure how this equates to OC. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
