July 21, 200421 yr Wow, there is a flood of payware Austrian airports available now, both from Aerosoft and from Fsquality. How are going to know which one is better? There some great shots of the latter in the screenshots forum. How can we compare the two? Anyone tried them out yet?Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
July 22, 200421 yr That FSQuality product looks amazing! I wonder how it is on performance though. Innsbruck looks spectacular. Anyone tried it yet? ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
July 23, 200421 yr Hi,yes, I bought three packs, Vienna, Salzburg and Klagenfurt. I must say that I am very satistifed with the airports. Besides the three larger ones, you get a bunch of small(er) airfields scattered across Austria. They are very well done, textures are photorealistic and EXTREMELY sharp (see the comparison shots at FSquality site). A lot of little details, like fences, chairs & tables, barns, power lines with those little red balls to warn the pilots, a few castles thrown in for a good measure as are some other significant buildings and towers that do not belong to the airports properFPS? Very good, I haven't noticed a significant drop even at LOWWcompared to the default airport. One thing that bothered me... background grass texture on ALL airports is an annoyingly rich green and I replaced those few files with one of the default grass textures (all seasons). As I said in the screenshots forum, took me 5 minutes to do it. Over all, I am very pleased with the results, the airports sit perfectly on various meshes, pay- or freeware, if grass texture is replaced they blend perfectly with the surroundings. For me, well worth the money! :)And no, I am in no way connected to the author/publisher. July 23, 200421 yr Can you explain how you replaced the rich green grass with the default grass textures? I would like to do that also. Thanks :-)
July 23, 200421 yr Joseph,First, make a backup of the following files which can be found in your Austrian AirportsTexture folder(s). I am not sure how you installed the package, so your path to the Texture folder is probably different. - grassdksu.bmp- grassdksp.bmp- grassdkfa.bmp- grassdkhw.bmp- grassdkwi.bmp- grasssu.bmp- grasssp.bmp- grassfa.bmp- grasshw.bmp- grasswi.bmpNow go to x:FS2004SceneryWorldtexture folder and find 006b2xxy.bmp files, where:xx = su, sp, wi, hw, fa (seasonal variants)y = 1-7 (variants of the grass)Pick one set that you like most (from 1 to 7), use Image Tool to examine the textures and COPY all 5 files of the chosen set to a temporary folder. Example: if you like 006b2su2.bmp, copy these files:006b2su2.bmp, 006b2sp2.bmp, 006b2fa2.bmp, 006b2hw2.bmp, 006b2wi2.bmpto the temporary folder. Now rename them like this:006b2su2.bmp = grassdksu.bmp006b2sp2.bmp = grassdksp.bmp006b2wi2.bmp = grassdkwi.bmp006b2hw2.bmp = grassdkhw.bmp006b2fa2.bmp = grassdkfa.bmpCopy and paste these files in the same temporary folder. Rename the resulting "copy of..." to grasssu.bmp, grasssp.bmp and so on. As you can see, the second half of the files is the same set of grass textures, just remove the letters "dk" from the names. You should end up with 10 files with the same names as the ones at the start of this reply. Copy them back to your AustrianAirports/Textuer folder and you're all set. Hope this helps. :)Jurehttp://www.globecargo.org/images/VAA_Captain.jpg
July 23, 200421 yr None is better, nonee is worse, because they are both exactly the same product! The airports are produced by FsQuality and Aerosoft just distributes them. But there are 2 volumes available:Volume 1 covers the eastern part of AustriaVolume 2 covers the western part of Austriaedit: little correction. Aerosoft offers also another product, called Vienna 2004. This product stands for itself and has nothing to do with Austrian Airports. So if you buy Austrian Airports Volume 1, you do not need Vienna 2004, because in AA Volume 1 is allready an excelletn version of the Vienna Airport included.Wolfgang.
July 23, 200421 yr Be careful, when judjung this add on by the screenshots. The screenies were made, using add on mesh and other addon sceneries which are not included in Austrian Airports. What you get with Austrian Airports ar only the airports themselves. But still that's pretty much!Wolfgang
July 23, 200421 yr I bought the first version of Austrian Airports when it was released for MSFS2K (or was it MSFS2K2?). I liked it but at some airports I had big white boxes scattered all over scenery and some buildings lacked textures. This happened whether I re-installed the scenery or even formatted the hard disk and installed the sim and the scenery again. I contacted the author (Stefan Rausch) a couple of times but never got any reply. So a rather mixed experience. Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
July 23, 200421 yr Thanks Jure :-) Vienna looks alot better now. It stood out to much with those rich green grass textures. Now it's blended in more with the rest of FS2004.
July 24, 200421 yr Author Well, guys, I went and bought the Vienna airport and on first look it seems really nice. I'm looking forward to checking it out. Whoa, the grass is very green!Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
July 24, 200421 yr Author Okay, it's nice scenery but does anyone know how to get rid of the miserable looking static aircraft? I cannot for the life of me figure out which file contains the static.Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
