Oceanic Clearance

Featured Replies

Oceanic Clearance Request... Is this an ACARS feature? Will it be included in the PMDG 777?

James Goggi

It is a CPDLC (Controller–pilot data link communications) feature.

While I don't believe (I don't want to say yes or no) PMDG will be modelling it in their aircraft (CPDLC nor ACARS (Unless the ACARS is a simple ON BLOCK, OFF BLOCK etc. time capture)), a similar request can be made with Hoppies ACARS, a client designed to work within the numerous Hoppie clients (ATC Client for CPDLC, TOPCAT for company comms etc.)

More information can be found here: http://www.hoppie.nl/acars/

Very much doubt it. I mean, it might be in there, but functional? I doubt it. What will it connect to? They're not going to build a pilot client for VATSIM or IVAO into their plane, so what else?

It would be cool if it could connect to one of those networks, but with all the red tape with working with one of the networks, there's no chance.

Before asking questions like "will it have X?" It might be worth taking a moment to think of the details behind how it would work.

By all means, ask questions, but it never hurts to run the question internally first.

I doubt that it will work with any network as well! But it could turn out nice if it somehow was to draw some data from the AIRAC that's already working with the plane. But of course you would have to give your self the clearance in the ind. Well idk. Could be nice tho ^_^

Could be, but remember that the NATs are not based on the AIRIC cycle. They change twice a day. PACOTs are similar, I believe.

I know ;) But it could be something that you put in manual if you'd like to. Just to pass time on the long flights LOL

What I'd like to see, is an API to allow third-parties to produce applications that use the MCDU and/or MFD as the input/output device, as well as reading/writing data to the FMC (e.g. writing: COROUTE UPLINK or ATC ROUTE UPLINK; reading: progress data for position reports, crosstrack error/legs page for ADS-C deviation events)

This would allow ACARS and CPDLC to be implemented without requiring PMDG to select a particular implementation and lock out everyone who doesn't use that implementation.

PMDG aren't - but doesn't mean a 3rd Party Developer won't. It'd be incredible, but got to link it to Vatsim/IVAO some how?

Our airline would forever be in dedication to PMDG for this one haha

But I agree with the overall consensus. Maybe not them modeling CPDLC related functionality, but allowing someone else to do it if they wish along with ACARS implementation.

Thanks!
