November 29, 201213 yr You know, like when the pilot is flying in the real bush and the landing strip is on the side of a hill and goes up to the top. I like that. So, I was flying South of the Fairbanks area and came upon Greg'n Sage. What a surprise! The landing is up the side of a hill. I love it! Unfortunately, it turns out that is not the landing strip at all. In fact, I can't figure out what it is. But, I enjoyed landing there a lot. Still, it is an outstanding accomplishment by the guys at MGS that terrain details like this that really exist (I checked on Google!) are faithfully reproduced in Flight. Best regards. November 29, 201213 yr Maybe it's a fire break or logging road. There are such great places to land every where one looks in Alaska or Hawaii. The cub will get in and out of almost anywhere, it is a blast!
November 29, 201213 yr Luis, You made me look.. I had not been to this airport. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know it was there. So, being the curious fellow I am, I just had to go take a look. I saw some interesting things near the airport including your sloped runway. Sitting on the runway at G&S. A wide view showing the runway, the slope, some weird clear areas, tanks, and a brown area. Seeing some interesting sights including the sloped area. As stated, I think this is a power line easement. I also think the big storage containers must be for fuel for a power plant that should be in the big brown area in the screen shots. All in all, very interesting. Thanks Luis for taking me to a new area. Thank you. November 29, 201213 yr Author Glad you liked it, Rick and thanks for the information. I think that this is the first time ever in any version of Flight Simulator that we can explore the countryside and get the impression of really being some place in the world. There is so much detail and a lot more realism to the terrain than there has ever been before. Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
November 29, 201213 yr Being even more curious, I looked up Greg N Sage in Google Earth. It looks a lot different than Flight's representation. It appears that the slope is actually the airport runway just as you said, Luis. And there are no storage tanks but the area in the lower right hand corner of the picture is a power plant. The white line running west and then north along the highway is the power line. Interesting. Thank you. November 30, 201213 yr Author Excuse me, Rick, on the contrary, the diagonal green strip leading down towards the left is where I landed and the true runway is up at the top of your image, and this is precisely how Flight depicts this area. Amazing terrain detail, and the entire game is like that. I always fly with the Sectional displayed and every terrain feature there appears in Flight. Best regards. November 30, 201213 yr There is so much detail and a lot more realism to the terrain than there has ever been before. I agree with that statement fully Luis. I was just looking through the list of awards again and it is so apparent that there were such big things in the works. We only now have this small fragment of what might have been to work with. I just find it so hard to leave this word that I have come to know so well. I really do appreciate the talent that went into it's creation more and more every time I fire it up.. Enough with the pity party I/we will just have to work with what we have. So much more still to do! Steve

I guess I got my directions twisted around. Since I don't have Gmap installed I'm not able to see the terrain like you (bad MS map). I agree that Flight depicts terrain better than any I've seen before. It's great that these interesting sites are available for us to discover and that you keep finding them. I hope to get more time soon to do some more exploring myself. Until then I'll look forward to your posts. Thank you. November 30, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the information, Paul. Very interesting stuff. Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
December 2, 201213 yr I forget the name of it, but there's a little dirt strip just north of Hilo, which follows the terrain nicely. If you try to land on it from the west, the runway keeps dropping out from underneath you, if you land from the east, the ground rushes up. It's great! The joys of Flight, too bad it was cancelled. :(
December 2, 201213 yr The joys of Flight, too bad it was cancelled. Amen to that, a lot of potential there that never got realized. Perhaps someday they will see fit to give it another go, who knows. Don B
