December 3, 201213 yr Well the title speaks for itself.. I could buy it for a better price right now so what I'm asking is if it will manage fsx' many small files as an FSX SDD should?
December 3, 201213 yr Yes, good, very good. But see, that this size your FSX at the moment, installing new FSX spends only 16GB, depends on how many aircraft scenarios, you will add to it. For optimal performance is very good, an example, Windows 7 + FSX on SSD, we would then 240GB -7% (format) = 223GB. 223GB - 7GB (windows7)-16GB (FSX) - 8GB (Windows paging files) = 192GB free. I use an Intel 180GB SSD (160 after formatting), I have Windows7, FSX, P3D, FS9, and REX OD Plus, 60 GB and I have always free, however other programs installed on 500GB HDD. Do not use third-party scenarios and have few aircraft from third parties. The SSD improves the overall performance of the computer, very much. December 3, 201213 yr Well the title speaks for itself.. I could buy it for a better price right now so what I'm asking is if it will manage fsx' many small files as an FSX SDD should? It is an excellent choice. My FSX's installation is spanned over two of these.
December 3, 201213 yr Yes, SSD is a definite must. I am using 256GB Samsung SSD. I do not think you need Paging files - see SSD optimization guides on the net - it will save you 8GB, right now my FSX directory with Orbx PNW, Rex, UT2 and few planes is at 40GB. I know it will grow more once I save up and buy some more ORBX sceneries. So many things are being read, SSD speeds help drastically. December 3, 201213 yr Author Ok, guys! Thank you very much just ordered one thanks to your comments. I'll go without photo sceneries for now and i don't own ORBX yet (waiting for Alaska) Best Regards Victor
December 3, 201213 yr Hi, I have seen the tutorial on how to move FSX onto an SSD or another HDD By Ben Cap ~ very informative. But how might this be modified if I wanted to span over more than one SSD like cptawson? Maybe cptawsom can enlighten us with a modified tutorial? Regards / Baz Barry Wells
December 3, 201213 yr Author Yes, it would be helpful indeed.. Although i'm considering a new clean install as i haven't had one for 2 years. I just love clean FSX. Everything goes so smooth like it's a whole different software. I promise i will leave it that way for 2 days  ! I'm also wondering if i would be ready to go just by setting the drive on a hardware level.. I mean plug the drive on the SATA-3 and that's all.. Are there any BIOS or partition settings/ flags that we should be aware of?
December 4, 201213 yr The BIOS sees it as just another HD, though you will need to use AHCI mode in your SATA controller (a bios setting) to get the maximum speed benefit of the SSD. If you are not currently using AHCI, there is a well known, MS sanctioned and easy to do registry hack you'll need to do to make booting your current windows install successful using ACHI (google this to find out more). The SSD disk management setup is identical to setting up a HD except you'll probably be prompted if you want the drive to be "MBR" or "GPT", which has to do with how the bios sees it as a bootable device. Choosing MBR is safest, though it can be reverted to GPT if need be. If you've never installed a new HD, reading up on using windows disk management is mandatory but don't worry: setting up a new drive is very simple.
