  1. Hi, I hope someone may be able to help. My X55 joystick has been getting very noisy recently and quite stiff to operate. Has anyone any tips on the best way of lubricating the mechanics and what to use? I haven't tried opening it up yet in the hope that I can get some advice from someone here who may know the the best way of going about it. Baz
  2. Can anyone tell me which folders the sky and cloud texture files live in? Are they. The same in P3D v2 and v3? Baz
  3. Yes for me the Saitek X55 Rhino too. However it has recently started misbehaving after working smoothly for some time. The joystick intermittently refuses to acknowledge most key presses. Axis work fine. I suspect a USB power problem and am waiting for an Inateck USB 3.0 powered PCI-E card which I am hoping will resolve my problem. Baz
  4. Just to add my favorite to the list, have a look at SimLauncherX.... (google it ).... it does a whole lot more and it is also free/donation_ware. Baz
  5. I use Shoreham and Compton Abbas with Horizon VFR scenery and it looks great. Blends in well and no elevation issues that I have noticed. Barry
  6. I have a GTX 760 2Gbyte running P3D V2 and aircraft shadowing internal/external + cloud shadows all work fine.
  7. They should be in...... C:/Program Files (x86)/Horizon Simulation Hope this helps.
  8. Hi, sorry I dont have the answer but I just installed an Nvidea GTX760 and don't find my anti alising working either. I have to tick it in FSX. I know some settings in Inspector do work - e.g. fps limiter. But how can you tell if the profile for FSX is being used? I am currently running NVIDEA Inspector 1.9.7.2 GeForce 331.82
  9. Thanks for the helpful suggestions guys. The problem turned out to be something in SweetFX. I didn't isolate it, just reinstalled the complete latest package V1.5 and now everything works great. So I can confirm using "mklink /j" to move the entire FSX directory with everything in it does work. All my sceneries, aircraft, logbook and missions intact. Regards. Barry
  10. DX9 does not work either. Is that the main shaders folder including all the other internal folders contained within it?
  11. Hi, Can anyone help with this problem that I ended up with after using "mklink /j" to move my complete FSX folder to a new drive. Some files got corrupted during the transfer but these I managed to repair with my FSX CD. However I am currently left with a shader problem, FSX crashes out with the following error.... initialising shader enviroment device->GetBackBuffer failed I have rerun Steves DX10 scenery fixer incase that might have fixed things - but no change. Any help would be appreciated. Regards Barry
  12. Just bought Revolution X and given it a quick try out. It is an improvement on just bare photo scenery but don't expect too much from it. I have found some areas totally lacking any autogen even with my sliders set at max (e.g. around EGFF Cardiff airport along the south coastal area ). I also find the trees rather sparse. My only other major critisism is the night lighting is very erratic switching on and off in great swathes whenever you pan the view. Don't know if this could be due to one of my settings needing tweaking but Orbx Global 3D lighting works fine ( not in photo scenery of course). I would give it 7 out of 10 - and 8 out of 10 - if I can get the night lighting to work. Barry
  13. Thanks for that RockOla. Never heard of Bandicam before but I have just given it a try and it works great for screenshots and FPS with SFX and DX10.
  14. No, FSX boots Ok, but trying to use Flight FX gui to change settings no longer works with SweetFX which initially it did before firing up Fraps.
  15. I have had problems in the past with SweetFX but decided to give it another try. I installed V1.5 and used it with the Flight FX gui and it was working great until I loaded up Fraps for some screen shots. As soon as Fraps started it killed my sfx settings and since then I have been unable to get it to work again even after restarting FSX and no Fraps !!!
  16. Thanks for the prompt reply Paul I'm on the way to get my copy now. And thanks for taking the time to put up a great set of pics. Regards ~ Baz
  17. Apologies if this question has already been answered but can someone confirm that Steves DX10 fixer makes the FTX Global 3D vector lights work in DX10 mode? I have seen references that it fixes the black squares but not necessarily making it clear that the lights are actually fully functional at night.
  18. Nice sequence of screen shots you have taken. The red bridge is the Forth railway bridge which is to the east of the Forth road bridge both of which span the Firth of Forth linking Edinburgh with Fife. Baz
  19. Have been using DX10 for more than a year as I find my fps are higher and with less stutters. I also find the overall look to be much nicer than FS9. I put up with or avoid the sceneries with problems. Didn't know about the likely release of a tool to fix the scenery problems. if it is successful I shall be near the front of the que to try it. Baz
  20. Cleared with a reinstal of PlanG and Fraps.
  21. I have just discovered that PlanG and also FRAPS no longer work with FSX could this be a Simconnect problem with FSX ? Any help would be appreciated. Regards B W.
  22. What about Ben Cap's tutorial on moving FSX to an SSD? Looks like a neat solution. See here. http://forum.avsim.net/tutorials/article/8-moving-fsx-over-to-an-ssd/ Baz
  23. Hi, I have seen the tutorial on how to move FSX onto an SSD or another HDD By Ben Cap ~ very informative. But how might this be modified if I wanted to span over more than one SSD like cptawson? Maybe cptawsom can enlighten us with a modified tutorial? Regards / Baz
  24. Hi, Since the recent drop in price of some high end video cards I am considering replacing my AMD HD4800 with possibly a HD7870/50 or Nvidia GTX 570. My CPU is a 2.7GHz i7 with 6 Gb of ram. I currently get an average fps in the range 15 - 30 fps. However with some of the Orbx sceneries this can drop significantly. Some time ago in the FS2002 days I upgraded a video card and was some what dissapointed with the results. Any idea what I might expect with an upgrade or is the cpu likely to be a limiting factor? With my system being only three years old I am reluctant to dump it for a new one just to run FSX, everything else performs fine for me. Hope someone can offer some guidance - thanks Baz
