Well, can't avoid posting in this thread...

I failled at selling XP10... I would should I find a buyer, so, I am keeping it, but, I am almost sure it will never fulfill my requirements, not becaue of the scenery (landclass, no seasonal textures, distant scenery rendering, etc...), not even because of the limited weather graphics, the daylight problems, the lack of proper internal maps (whow, this one is basic in ANY flight simulator,,,,), and a few more aspects that I could accepts as probably being dealt with until it reaches 10.70, but rather because I doubt Austin will adventure trying to fix two bugs that completely kill my experience with this sim - ground handling and very very poor flight model when it comes to the modelling of prop aircraft... not to talk about the exact same reasons that make FSX unplausible when it comes to "flight near the edge of the envelope".

XP10 is announced as an ultra-realistic flight simulator... It should instead have been written as "ultra-complex flight simulation"... Yes it can be complex to use Plane Maker with all of the miryad of parameters you have there to deal with... but sorry guy... that's as far as it goes :-/ from there on, all you can do in XP10 can be done (even better in some aspects IMHO) in FSX, with the exception of rotary wings and spaceflight...

Of all the simulators I bought in 2012, starting with MS FLIGHT, XP10 is certainly the one I regret the most having spent my money in... It's the 2nd time I fall in the very same error (last was XP8), that's the pure truth!

Quick question if anyone can give me a little insight. So I have updated to 10.20b9 and it did this with 8 also but the 3D cockpits to all my add on aircraft such as CRJ-200, 777, Jetstream, and for a while until this beta the default King air. When I try to click on some of the 3d cockpit switches with my mouse they simply will not move. is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I wont be as direct as JGregory is above, but I have to agree that Geof's opinions of X-Plane from previous threads seem fairly negative and somewhat antagonistic. It seems he has made a decision that X-Plane is flawed - "always has been, always will be."

I believe it is a good thing to highlight issues, and discuss openly and intelligently, but this air of negativity doesn't help anyone. I doubt anyone will say that XPlane 10 is perfect, but it does seem his scenarios change to fit his arguement, which naturally gives me thought toward questioning how real those statements are.

For some readers Geof's comments reinforce stereotypical and non-factual comments that are usually thrown X-Plane's way. As he is a long term member of this site I'm sure he should understand the value in supporting the communities within it and encouraging open dialogue. The consistant negativity he provides in this forum does not seem to promote that intention.

Geof - you might be a long term user of X-Plane, (ie a customer who purchased a product and not a shareholder expecting returns) but with the frustrations you seem to have it might be time to sell your copy of X-Plane 10 and move on, or at least shelve it. Alternatively consider reverting back to using X-Plane 9.7 where your Carenado will work until they provide an update they committed to for X-Plane 10.

JGregory, if you are a commercial developer who do you develop for or will you disappear into the wilderness after your three posts? If you hadnt joined a couple years ago I would think you are trolling with a new account.

Kind of a rude post really? You call it a beta but performance issues must the the problem of the end user? Beta code never has issues right, especially when it comes to performance or dealing with the magnitude of different configurations.

Thankfully most companies do not work like LR no matter how much you may prefer them to.

Jason

That's way out of line.

JGregory (Jim) has been around for about 4-5 years and is considered one of the best programmers in X-Plane (Able to code in C, C++, Python, although I'm not sure how good he is in that, and LUA). He has worked directly with Laminar on various fixes that have been introduced in past X-Plane 10 updates.

Cameron and I have gone to great lengths to answer many questions about X-Plane in the past. Particularly to Geof on a more personal level. Geof's response, to me in particular, was:

that he has spent "$$$ and has nothing". Really? Nothing? Come on.

He also told me to "Get real" because Cameron preferred he addressed any issues in the developers forum (where others could benefit) and not on avsim where very few developers go.

(Feel free to read about it on the page I have linked below)

http://forum.avsim.n...00#entry2532269

Regardless what I have done for the MSFS community in the past (and continue to do so), no one deserves to be told to "Get Real" when that person takes time out to help and offer alternatives.

Sure, Geof has been a moderator in the past and he may very well be a nice guy. Jim (JGregory) is also a nice guy. But when the same explanation is repeated over and over, by different people, it gets to a point where it's just not a respectful complaint anymore.

Geof has been a very well respected and insightful member and staff member of this community for years. He is very helpful and is just a good guy. In my humble opinion, I do not believe that three posts (at the time of your statement) and a rude demeanor give you the right to offer such criticism. I hope it is just that you are having a bad day, which we all can understand, but you should probably humble yourself a bit and apologize.

Respect does not entitle an individual to constantly repeat the same complaints in various threads. It could be Geof or Joe Blogs. Cameron, Tom Kyler, Morten and myself have all gone to great lengths to explain things, not only to Geof personally, but to the general public about many facets of X-Plane and it's add ons. Not only in it's development, but also in how it works. And as mentioned above, I was told to "Get Real".

Rude? Disrespectful? I don't know. But I didn't appreciate it.

As mentioned above, after a while, complaints get very annoying when repeated over and over again. (Precisely the reason developers like PMDG lock threads when people keep asking "When is the 777 coming out? or "When is PMDG going to make an Airbus?" over and over and over again).

Explanations have been given. Even if it was Barack Obama himself who was complaining, X-Plane wouldn't get developed any faster than if you or Jason Harris were complaining.

And that's the way it SHOULD be.

JComm - I agree with all your points about the limitations. There seems to be a tradeoff between the different products - each one being better, and worse, in different areas. I do find that Prepar3d is still giving me the most satisfaction, but I think that's due to the huge number of FSX addons I've been able to bring across. On your suggestions i'm also now starting to get in to DCS World, but even it has some defficiencies.

I'm positive of the changes that are being done in X-Plane but most are cosmetic at this time - which for many will be good enough. I hope that once the new art assets are in place they can start addressing some of the more principle flight characteristics.

I'm pretty happy with my X-Plane 10 purchase. I knew what the probable path was going to be, but having only just come onboard in the last few months also managed to see a large number of updates in rapid succession. I'll continue using which flight sim is right for the type of flying I want to do, and I'll continue buying the addons to support the developer community that I believe are slowly starting to step up to fill some of those gaps with scenery, aircraft flight dynamics and utilities.

Yes, it's true that the team, Ben et al, is doing a tremendous job, and progressing at a very good pace towards achieving those "cosmetic" aspects sorted out... I still have some hope left for the rest... after all I was once very enthusiastic about XP10....

Regarding the 3pds, I admire their work and persistency...

Goran, what I said is not out of line at all. He is a member with three posts, he has not tagged himself as commercial and I dont know him from a bar of soap, should I?

What I did was tell him he was being rude without calling him anything as he did to Geoff.

Get a grip mate.

And just on 3rd party developers ... I noticed today's update from PMDG. which include some detail of the work they're doing for X-Plane;

XPLANE Development Update:

==========================

I mentioned awhile back that we were beginning the process of bringing onboard a developer to run the Xplane development process in house at PMDG. We have had Chris Powell with us for few months now and he has been leading the Xplane development process since hitting the ground back in October…

We have selected the airplane that will be our first release for the Xplane marketplace- and that project is well into development, although it is taking longer than we would otherwise like. Xplane is a completely new platform for us- and as such we are still fumbling and feeling our way through various tasks that come as second nature to us in FSX.

You may recall that I said earlier that we will not be announcing the Xplane project until it is nearly finished… We made this decision in order to prevent ourselves from getting locked into a particular simulation when we might decide later on that a different airplane was more conducive to Xplane conversion and our own learning process with the new (to us) simulator platform. I am glad we made that decision, because just such a change took place a few months back- and we have a really great new airplane coming for you on the Xplane platform.

What happens after the first Xplane project releases? We’ll start working on the second one. :-D

Get a grip, mate?

After that speech of not knowing someone from a bar of soap, you have the audacity to tell me to "Get a grip, mate"?

You constantly surprise me, Jason.

Goran, Mike did the job of highlighting what JGregor said.

It was rude, completely rude and I don't know his history. As far as I know he doesnt have a history with xplane because he has 3 posts and this is the only xplane forum I go to.

So why dont you read what he said, then read what I said and don't be so surprised.

Better yet, read all of Geof's posts (complaints).

JGregory did. He also read Cameron's replies, as well as Tom Kylers and mine. Yet Geof continued to make the same complaints. Cameron, Tom and I were being polite, courteous and respectful in all our correspondence with Geof. Read through the thread I linked to.

Sometimes, being blunt is the only way to get through to someone. Unfortunately, being blunt is easily confused for being rude. Especially among the cynics.

Well, I have also just couple of posts here and may disappear in wilderness.... However from what I am reading I have to agree with both JGregory and GoranM. Geofa's whining which he is spreading everywhere certainly IS annoying. We all got his point, it is not necessary to repeat it thousand times over and over.

And yes, blunt or direct should not be confused with rude.

I dont know everyones history here, why should I? I have not got a memory full of old posts that may not have interested me.

Sure, there is blunt, thats one thing but 'your ignorant brain' stuck out when reading his post and struck me as rude more than blunt. Well, both actually.

Goran, you should just read whats in front of you as I read it. I don't have months of conversations between you, Cameron, Morton and whoever else spinning around in my head. I see whats in front of me in that post so dont expect me to take your view on it.

Out of that entire post, all you got out of it was "your ignorant brain"??

So Geof telling me to "get real" when it was suggested he addresses add on issues in the appropriate developer forums is perfectly ok with you.

If you feel Geof is justified in repeating the same complaint in several different threads, over and over again, then there really isn't any point in continuing this discussion.

I personally have helped Geof extensively with an add on of mine and a few other kind and grateful people with regards to X-Planes flight model in the PM section of these forums. When was the last time Captain Sim, Wilco, Just Flight, FSLabs, PMDG, Carenado ever helped a customer or even a non customer on a 1 on 1 basis in the PM section of ANY forum?

Yet Cameron is accused of chastizing Geof and I'm told to "get real" when suggesting he go about things in the correct, and most beneficial way.

Perhaps, if you don't know the history, and you don't have a head full of old posts that detail the history of 1 particular post, it might be best to just say nothing and leave it between Geof and JGregory.
