UT2, Traffic 360 or Mytraffic 2013

Featured Replies

THanks for the insight .... have you used any of the others (UT, MyTraffic)?

These were some of the same probs I also had with UT2 as well!

Same unstable platform but better graphics imho! They WILL indeed have fixes, patches and updates...no develpoer releases original 1.0 and thats it...im certain patience will pay off here.

(with that said, i may reinstall UT2 until that time)-lol!

No I haven't. Tempting but its not like I have $40 lying around growing on trees in my situation. Its a 2013 product that was an upgrade to traffic X. They shouldn't have these kinds of issues on a platform that is 6+ yrs old. Plenty of time to work through the sdk. I don't expect perfection and outstanding models but come on. Double landings? Full gates but no moving traffic? This is a foundation of a traffic program. And an answer from support saying to just let it run longer doesn't sit well.

Maybe I should've been more prudent and gone with a product that says "professional" in it. My traffic X 5.4 Who knows. Doesn't seem to be any definitive answer here of a balanced platform in decent models performance and realism of flight patterns.

I see these threads pop up all the time, and there never seems to be a consensus on which product is best. It keeps me from pulling the trigger to purchase a traffic addon.

Which is the best regarding the following:

1.Performance

2. Simulation immersion

3. Fewest obvious flaws

Having completely full gates no matter what airport, very little apron movement, traffic and landing, no matter what your AI slider is at, planes leaving with the doors and stairs open, aircraft double landing hardly apart, aircraft stuck on runway, and atrocious sound files that abruptly stop and sound like a hair dryer is hardly a statement for getting better.

HT,

I'm not having any of the problems with Traffic360 that you mention above, except for the annoying "hair dryer" noise and its abrupt end. I've flown into / out of several airports, using different slider values, and I almost always see aircraft landing / taking off. Last night I flew into KBHM and after parking sat and watched traffic landing and departing in the middle of a t-storm for 30 mins.

That being said, I've flown into some smaller regional airports where there isn't much going on, even with sliders at 100%. I'm also not picky about the correct airlines or repaints being used, so I can't speak to that issue.

What tweaks are you using? Is there a patch I dont know about? Certainly not in their forums and everyone is having same problem as me according to the T360 forum at just flight. My opinion for anybody considering this is to stay away unless they do a serious patchup. Clearly there was hardly any beta testing done.

I hope there is a patch to address some of your concerns. Like I've said, the only really annoying issue for me has been the "hair dryer" noise.

Hairdryer noise gone!

Just rename the sound file in FSX sim objects. Easy!

Now i hear AE and its great!

I also sat at Berlin Intl for over an hour and no conflicts. Amazing landings and takeoffs! Gates were full but plenty of vacancies. I even followed a Luftuansia 737 to its gate for about a 2 mile taxi! Impressive!

No doors open or double aircraft landings. The space between aircraft on approach blows UT2 away!

A nice distance with takeoffs between. Very real! Better aircraft lights too.

Workin with it...

Are you sure your running T360? LOL

I was just at Heathrow and had two aircraft landing a few 100 meteres apart, but they both had to do a go around because the previous aircraft which landed is just sitting on the runway. The aircraft waiting to takeoff in front of me suddenly just dissappeared.

So you must have a special download. Glad your enjoying it at least.

Thanks for the sound file tip. Can you be more specific which file you renamed and to what? I assume you mean simobjects/jftarffic/jfAI-allaircraft?

But there are a ton of sound files.

Hey , it aint perfect. i too have seen planes vanish with T360.

And no line ups for takeoff at rush hours. Whats with that? Havent been vectored into any visible patterns yet, as UT2 showed all that rather nicely with waiting planes on ground as u land. No such luck in T360.

I contacted service with a note about this premature launch.

Hopefully they'll save face and customers, and comply immediately!

I like their graphics and animations. If only we could combine (turn on or off) options from each, like the weather engines and graphics of AS2012/REX/FEX etc...

I think the offending sound files are these (found in JFAI-AllAircraft/sound.jet2/):

BTW, you may be able to edit the sound.cfg file to adjust the volume levels instead of removing the sounds completely....

UT2 is a viable choice. It works for me. I wanted to see a busy FedEx hub so I followed the clear instructions by a user on their forums to add the FedEx repaints and schedules and now I fly out of busy FedEx hubs.

I like the sliders in UT2 that allow you to adjust how many planes it spawns. It has separate sliders for airlines and GA so you can skew it one way or the other if you want. I skew it to airlines when I fly heavies; I skew it towards GA when flying small stuff. You can easily clear away the AI while in-game to test framerates or to clear the pattern when you don't want to wait your turn.

Also, when reading these comparison posts keep this in mind:

* "30%" in one add-on cannot be compared to "30%" in another add-on; one needs to ask "how many a/c is 30%"

* these traffic add-ons decide when to inject a/c and the flight plan of the a/c; they do not control the tower or taxi routing or ground placement within a gate; those bugs are all FSX and airport model layout

* framerate depends on the model (which are usually provided by the add-on or you or downloads), ground physics (all FSX), and flight physics (all FSX) multiplied by the number of a/c in the scene; all the add-on can do is scale the number of a/c, choose the model, and decide what is moving or just sleeping at the gate. In other words, all of the add-ons can have some part in the framerate, and you should ask about the settings in the add-on, but much of the framerate is the FSX physics.

Sounds like they are all workable so just pick one and fly!

Flying a 2 Seat Static GA Simulator out of CYYZ.

I guess traffic360 may have to wait until it's ready from the big time.

As i mentioned, i have both UT2 and mytraffic x 5.4. I think they're both good. I can get traffic more simply and reliably with mytraffic x. It's also being actively developed. If planes not following real flightpaths doesn't bother you, i'd probably get that one. Personally, i do like the 'contrails in the right place' experience described by others above. So it's entirely possible I'll reinstall UT2 sometime and use that.

But if you're sitting on the fence and don't have either because of 'analysis paralysis'...my advice is that either is a worthy purchase.
