My first Dreamliner flight.

Ok, I know it's nothing to do with FS, but I know you guys will understand. Today I flew from Warsaw Okecie to London Heathrow on one of LOT's new B787-800s. What a great aircraft, very impressed with the climate control and lighting. Ok, only a 2 hour flight, but I love this aircraft :-)

I am jealous Gavin... Two questions; Was it quiet inside? Also how much bigger are the windows?\

Thank you.. Very cool indeed!

Compared to a B763 I'd say it is quieter in cruise and on takeoff, but quiet noisey on descent due to all the braking. Apparently it's very slippery and takes a lot of slowing down. We had air brakes out for a good part of the descent - and very interesting control surface movements - what a bunch of nerds we are :-)

The windows are bigger, but not massively so.

Overall, if I had the cash, I'd buy one.

Oh wow, you're like an elite test pilot, not many have flown in one!

Simmo, nothing elite about me mate ;-)

And some developers say speed brakes have no effect in the air to slow aircraft. Level-D and a few others had or have this view. They feel the only purpose for them is to kill lift on the wings when the aircraft touches down. Many add-on aircraft I've had to go in and adjust the speed brake strength to better slow the aircraft in the air. The post above brought this to mind although today I can make a better educated point about this as I have since had time in numoris real world Level- D sims.

Pilot experience with the plane will probably solve some of the descent noise. If it's slippery, it should save fuel.

Hi Dillon,

Frankly, do you believe that extending a large panel into the airstream has no effect on drag?

Maybe the developpers you mention mean that the braking effect is not as large as one would think and that a spoiler's main task is to destroy lift but, in any case, a speed-brake does create drag, and does slow the plane down. Otherwise, the plane manufacturers wouldn't waste time in perfecting the aerodynamic shape of their aircrafts.

Very correct but developers like Level-D programmed speed brakes with zero effect in flight which is quite wrong.

Is that correct..? If so I wil never, ever, buy a Level-D plane...

Outside of this the Level-D plane is outstanding especially in it's day but this was the going wisedom with a few developers. The easy fix is to edit .air file. I don't know why some felt speed brakes had no effect on slowing the aircraft in flight.

All I wanted to do was say that I was excited about flying in a B788. Please don't turn my post into a developer bash :-(

OK guys, let's stay on topic. This is not about the Level D 767 or anything else but the 787-800 and the first flight experience and impressions etc.

Thank you.

Back home to Warsaw today and for some reason LOT upgraded the wife and I to Business Class. A very nice experience on the 787 - highly recommended. Though I may have over indulged with the pre-flight Champers and in-flight Bordeaux. Still, one does, doesn't one ;-)
