Everything is fast after reinstalling Windows and FSX. I had the same experience recently and installed Steve's DX10 Shader Fix and everything was fast and smooth. But DX10 or having a new OS is the secret of fast frames. Wait until you start adding addons. I had instant startups at first but now it is starting to get slower and slower. I know that when I reinstall my AI program, fps will drastically drop. This is why I'm holding off on doing that for a while. This is another fine example I provide those up in the CTD forums when they report a crash. FSX runs great with just FSX and Acceleration installed. It's smooth and fps are in the 100's. Then you start adding addons and things go down from there. So one should not blame FSX. It works great without addons.

Jim

I chose the dx10 option after installing fsx/Rex/ORBX/ and 4 FSDT Airports.....so far so good, fingers crossed :Praying:

Yes, me too! I also installed MegaScenery SoCal and Maryland and AS2012. Still superfast but things appear to be slowing down more than when I just had a basic FSX/Acceleration install. I also installed many of the FTX/Orbx Scenery too.

Jim

I noticed the same thing. DX10 + Win8 is truly fantastic.

My DX10 setup flies so smooth but the startup is very slow, hangs at 6% and 23% for a few minutes before moving on.

Mark,

Make sure your HD is defragged well.

Hey Flash - So did you use Steve's DX10 fixes during your re-install, or did just using Win8 seem to make all the usual DX10 troubles go away?

just win8, Bojote's and Kostas tweak guide

Where are and where are "Steve's DX10 files" , and what are the benefits? I thought FSX was dx9.

N1G - Have a read through this: http://stevesfsxanalysis.wordpress.com/

Steve has come up with a bunch of fixes for the "DX10 Preview" that was made available in SP2 of FSX. Fixes flashing runways, fences, cockpit shadows. You'll find the link to the files in the top right menu.

Bob,

FSX has a DX10 Preview option. It is not full fledged DX10.

Ok, that is what I should have asked. I assumed there was a new magic bullet when I read this. Not interested then, Thanks Jim!

There is a DX10 Forum here which contains all the details of the fixes made by Steve. It costs nothing extra to try it as he fixed the runway flickering issue, the not seeing taxiways issue, and some other things that have bugged members. It is not perfect but then neither is FSX or DX9. I like the fact that you can see shadows inside the cockpits and that provides further immersion into FSX. It's impossible to do that in DX9. Water is better too and there are some performance enhancements.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks Jim, Sounds like Steve did a quite a bit of work. I guess I will give it a shot and see what it looks like. I have tried everthing else over the years LOL so why not give this a try.
