Definitely some effective problem-solving, Roman. Way to go.

Another good tip to add to the SOP - note any/all key navaids and geographical features along your expected track in case your primary nav instrument fails. Apparently it CAN happen.

Thanks Craig,

An exception to the rules.. I have the baton from MM1G (MM39 in FSX) --> MMLM in the EAA Ford Tri-Motor. Removed the GPS & the P&W R2800 from the Bearcat and are on-board bringing them to the repair facilities @ "Valle Del Fuerte"

General Rules 7.a.ii says:

"I have the baton at (departure airport ICAO code) in (aircraft type) headed for airport (destination airport ICAO code)." (only aircraft type)

FAQ General Rules 7.a says "aircraft"

but I think I saw somewhere that we shall state:

1. Aircraft Type (eg. P51)

2. Aircraft Model (eg -H)

3. who created the model (A2A)

But now I cannot find that paragraph now !!!!!!

Am I wrong here ?????

If I am right, I think it should be more clearly stated in General Rules 7.a.ii.

and We will get a 5 minute Documentation Penalty according to "Race Administration" document appendix.

Special Rules § 5:

5. Normal Legs.

On posting the takeoff for any leg, the pilot must explicitly identify his aircraft. He

should announce (a) the aircraft type, ( b ) the model and ( c ) the specific simulation

modeler. Failure to announce all three in a timely manner (within an hour after

releasing the baton) may incur a documentation penalty.

Normal legs may extend to a maximum distance of 750nm and are limited to two

hours in duration.

It's in the Special Rules since the white list is not in the General rules, I think.

From the "Special Rules FAQ v.90:

5. Normal Legs and Wildcards.

Q. Why do we have to announce the aircraft type and model and modeler? In years past this has been an unobserved formality.

A. This year we have two special restrictions on aircraft. First, the aircraft must be on the "White List" of eligible aircraft. You must fly an aircraft that is on this list—and announce that you are doing so. Second, we have restrictions on the usage of some very fast aircraft (the thoroughbreds). When you announce your aircraft type and model and modeler, you are also announcing the status of that aircraft as well. Finally, we have a very specific distinction involving different simulations of the DH.103 Hornet—which require knowing the type, model, and modeler. The title of the aircraft, as retrieved by the Duenna, does not iden-tify the actual aircraft. Thus, you are required to announce the type, model, and modeler.

For example, "WombatOne has the baton flying the WBS P-51D," has a different meaning than "Moses03 is flying the A2A P-51H." The latter counts against the thoroughbred leg limit. Obviously, "flying the Mustang" will not do the job. Other examples include: "salt_air has the baton flying the FS2004 default DC-3," or "apollosmith is flying the dcc P-38M," or "buzzbee flying the FlightOne B727-200." Please make the announcement in good faith—typing the extra word or two is not much extra effort. A repeated failure to identify the aircraft will quickly lead to penalties.

I remember needing to do this last year, but I couldn't find an explicit instruction to do so in either the General or Special Rules for this year. It seems to reflect somewhat of a disconnect between the rules and the FAQ. Better safe than sorry, I think.

EDIT: After re-reading Klas' post, I think this is redundant. Oops.

Should the bolded part not be in the Baton Post part of the rules?

That would at least be more logical for me.

Afterall the text specfies "for any leg", not only for Normal Legs, which is the heading.

Thanks, Jock. There is a reason for the "rule and penalty" to be outlined in the Special Rules. However it might well go in the General Rules. For this year's race, we'll put it in both places so as to emphasize the importance of adequate identification and documentation.
