August 12, 200421 yr Well, after reading several threads with some of the most amazingly outrageous posts about FS Water (Everything from Flight1 turning into Abacus to implying that Flight1 is selling pirated freeware textures) I decided to take an action that is obviously a novel idea to some folks. I bought the package so I could try it and make a decision about the usefulness and quality of the package based on first hand knowledge and not 6 or 7 screenshots posted on the Flight1 site. I had no reservations about purchasing the package because of one reason. I have darn near everything that Flight1 distributes and I have NEVER been disappointed with anything I have purchased from them. Not with the quality of the product nor the support they provide. Now, to the FS Water package. It is very easy to install and allows you to choose which textures you install. I chose to install all of the textures, including the sky textures. I did a couple of quick flights over various types of water to see the effects. I must say I am very pleased with all I have seen. The various water textures are very pleasing to the eye as well as not being "overpowering" as some of the freeware textures are IMHO. The sky textures to me are a big bonus. They are subtle but very, very nice. The colors of the sky look much more realistic to me with this addition. There appears to be no framerate hit at all but I am using a high end machine.Overall I like the package. It's very handy and convenient to me to have all the water textures in one package and not have to "blend" various freeware packages to get the effects I want. I have used all of the freeware textures at one time or another in various combinations and like several of them. My opinion is that if you are happy with the combination you have, stick with it. If you like the idea of having a very nice set of textures in one convenient package, check out FSWater. Now I guess that's all I have to say. I'll let those of you who prefer to speculate and make comments based on zero facts get back to your fun.
August 12, 200421 yr George,Thanks for taking the plunge. Glad you like it. I know others will feel the same way once the get a look at it.Best Regards,Tom MainFlight One Software
August 12, 200421 yr Finally... a review from someone who has actually purchased the package. Thanks George.Greg
August 12, 200421 yr "Thanks for taking the plunge"You mean you can jump in it too, Tom? Now that's definitely worth the $15. How's the temperature?!Good luck with the product. I'm sorry you got such an "untested" hammering in "the other" thread and I think you're potty to give it away to such critics, personally - enquiring minds excepted - but your generosity does no harm to your reputation, that's for sure.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
August 12, 200421 yr I want water that looks like this...in this color.http://www.peoplesforum.com/cgi-bin/[email protected]/51 Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
August 12, 200421 yr I couldn't tell from the posted screenies on FLIGHT1's website, but do the inland water textures have that brown coloration that is more common to us flat landers in the middle of the states? Just curious. Thanks for taking the plunge and purchasing!
August 12, 200421 yr Rightseat,The water for the inland areas is pretty dark blue with plenty of green thrown in. It is what is common in my area in the US . We debated this one alot to see if we should make it more brown or more green, but in the end went with green as it is the prevalent color of inland water around the world. As with any texture though, the sun and clouds will make a big difference to the color you see. More clouds = darker water, more sun = brighter water and colors.Best,Tom MainFlight One Software
August 12, 200421 yr Tom,Is there any way you can post pictures of water under different conditions? I would love to have a dark (deep) water color with white animated waves for the oceans..Non Bahamas type. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
August 12, 200421 yr Manny,We will be posting more pictures in the Flight One forums later today. Really isnt right for us to post product pictures here at Avsim.Best,Tom MainFlight One Software

August 12, 200421 yr Hi,I think you'll find a lot of FS Water looks like that, depending on the region, time of day, time of year, how far North or South. We could consider your wants and desires but we need you to try it first and then give some feedback.Don't forget you will get your money back if you do not like it.just so you know some of the FS Water inland shallow water can look almost black in some light. It's very, very dark to say the least. just out of interest there is no inland water shots on the web site? Maybe we need to look at that?Peter Wilding.
August 12, 200421 yr I will buy this addon from Flight1, im the simmer that dont want to spend time adding textures to who knows what library. Just as with usroads, install it and your are ready to go flying. I have seen all the recommendations to great water here on avsim but what a hazzle. For me and probably many others this is the way to go, just buy it and install it, and all is fine.OHN
