bonchie I see, but in order to enjoy that lighting to the max would require one to enable HDR mode, correct? Does that mode have any effect for daytime lighting as well?

xp10 with no hdr landing on rwy 24r CYUL with high textures only, I took this pic last year before my upgrade. 777_v10_18_zps6537c2ac.jpg

  • Actually, I COULD show you scenery and aircraft to the standards you specified, but what's the point?  There are many people, like yourself, who are convinced that no one will ever top the developers

  • There is another thread running on this site right now you may wish to read Jim.   Why are flight simmers so rude to each other.

  • If he is in the Beta team, he's under NDA and not allowed to talk about it. Better for us to not ask anything about P3D V2!!   About X-Plane. People's argument is, I have too much money invested in

Flashisis thanks, do you have one with HDR on so I can see the difference? Lighting seems very weak on XPX.

i'm sorry but fsx night flying and roads do not look better, you are very mistaken. Start a poll on avsim and see the results you will get.

I've seen that video already. That's a stock XPX install with no 3rd party add ons?

Holy smoke guys... I did a quick lap at night with HDR enabled and I WAS BLOWN AWAY!!!! Just wow! I'm sorry, but especially when it comes to night flying, FSX cannot hold a handle to XP 10. No way. The more I try XP, the more I am digging it. Unfortunately in my situation, I think if I want to go with XP 10 for my home cockpit setup, I will be forced to get 2 more PCs in order to use them for the visuals, with a 4th PC for instruments. I definately can't afford 2 more PCs similar to my current one, so I need to really weigh in my options.

Perhaps, I can build two i5s with 580GTXs and then tone down my i7 so that all 3 PCs perform similarly as far as IQ is concerned? Which brings me to my next question... I really want to use G2XPL but if I go with 3 PCs, will that means that EACH PC will also need to have G2XPL running? That's 3x the download when it comes to the photoreal images!!!! Damn, so many options and decisions to just fly a simulator!"

Here's a video of the lighting in FSX. I know this isn't a fair comparison since this is obviously running with 3rd party add-ons. But my point is to show and compare the lighting. I think this looks a lot more realistic.

I have that addon for fsx and my home planet Earth does not have steets and lights like that

What add-on is that? If you have the same add-on, shouldn't the street lights look the same as in the video then?

here is another hardcore fsx taster from this week: Posted Yesterday, 03:48 AM

Flew into Runway 27 tonight at KSAN (San Diego) in X-Plane 10. It was mind-numbingly great on the graphics. You could see the red taillights of the traffic on the freeway driving away from you and the white headlights of the cars coming towards you as you descended over the downtown buildings for the runway. As I passed over the freeway, my landing lights in the 737 illuminated the tall buildings that are a prominent feature of the RWY 27 RNAV approach at KSAN. Quite spectacular as the buildings loomed up out of the darkness under the bright lights from the aircraft. Looking to the side, I could see the freeway traffic WINDING up the hill for the inland valleys. As real as it gets? Ya THINK??? I NEVER had an experience like that in FSX. It's several levels beyond anything I've seen in FSX or any other 'home-simulator' of any kind. The smoothness of the graphics (I am getting insane frames and much better anti-aliasing than I ever dreamed of in FSX. The vehicles in FSX are incredibly poor. They drive through each other and make military square turns. The night flights in FSX are a shimmering nightmare that require incessant anti-aliasing tweaks. I've spent ungodly amounts of time trying to make FSX run solid and reliable. Then I bought CYVR and got pushed out of the car and into x-Plane.

like I said earlier, try and enjoy all of them, today I simmed a total of 3 hours: 1hr in fs9/fsx/xp10 and 10mins in DCS.....THAT FLIGHT ENDED IN A FIREBALL. :good:

I guess I will have to give XPX another try when my parts for my new computer gets here. I really would like to give XPX a chance and I'm anxiously waiting until 3rd party developers will hop onboard and start making some really stunning addons for it.

I enjoy both but wonder how great the fps and smoothness will be in Xplane once it is loaded down with all the addons that FSX has. Lets face it, Xplane does not yet offer the level of realism that FSX does with it's addons. It will be interesting to see how well XPX will run once loaded down with addons. XPX does look nice now, can it scale up once loaded down. Nobody knows, it's never been done.

The atc, weather, and ai traffic all "stink" in Xplane right now. It need addons, just as FSX did, and they will have a toll on Xplanes performance, how much, only the future knows. ^_^

don't rush, they will come. Some have already started. Aerosoft has started and will release all their fsx stuff slowly. REX was released for xp9 and we will see a version for xp10 when xplane is finally completed and out of beta. FSX is getting much love because it's a completed product, xp10 is not.

X-Plane 3rd party developers are already making add ons for X Plane.

They have been for many years.

FSX developers have been working with X-Plane dev's for a while, too.

Yes I know they are, but I was hoping for PMDG and other great developers like OrbX, UK2000, FS2Crew, Flight1, etc to make all their beautiful planes for XPX.

 by the way does FSX have a police car chasing cars on the freeway  just that alone is worth $70

PMDG will announce their xp10 project this year, they mentioned this many times, but honestlty I don't care because JRollon, Ramzzess, and some other xp10 devs are releasing awesome payware identical to pmdg and captain sim quality.
