November 15, 201312 yr Two things that I need to get me to use XPX more often. I good traffic program like My Traffic X or UT2 an a good ATC program. I have the 777, A32neo, Dash8-400 and the CRJ-200. I know things like better cloud textures and seasonal textures are in the works. It's just going to take time. I think realistic airport traffic is a must, I remember back in my FS9 days having ultimate traffic installed and wow what an overall impact it had. Thankfully with more and more "default" "user submitted" airports populating X-Plane nows the time for a developer to step up and bring this to the sim.... Hint Hint, it would be like printing money for whoever put it together.....

November 30, 201411 yr I've recently watched a lot of FSX videos on youtube to see the differences and I really admit that FSX looks a lot better. I am fully aware that this is because of 3rd party add ons. But even when I am using X-Plane 10 with add ons, it still doesn't compare to FSX. So, did you change your mind? "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
November 30, 201411 yr Heheh, it's a go and return ;-) While I am waiting for the K4 in DCS World , early this week, I've been thoroughly enjoying XP10, tweaking the prop aircraft with the new datarefs, and playing a LOT of il2-CloD. Last monday as I was approaching EDDF in the jumpseat of an A320, with a Frankfurt covered by low stratus, and then watching the airport as the lighting systems became under visual contact distance, watching the first cars in one of the autobahns near the threshold of 25R, I thought to myself, that in simulation the closest I really felt to that sensation still was X-plane 10, with a good ortophoto superimposed with World2XP Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
November 30, 201411 yr I haven't been tempted by X-PLANE yet, at the moment I have ditched FSX just to lose the popping autogen in favour of small stutters with p3dv2.3. I'm trying to stop the never ending search for tweaked perfection and lose the FPS counter being displayed and just enjoy online simming with IVAO and Vatsim again as i used to do 6 years ago with a much inferior FSX...I'm not even updating to v2.4. When i get involved with an online flight the bloody stutters just don't get spotted and I enjoy the experience. New years resolutions...stop the tweaking and get back to what you addicted you to flight sim.
December 1, 201411 yr FSX is old the data is harder to update and runways are flat. Limitations of P3d are well known. Xplane 10 is improvement over version 9. Time goes on fsx shows its age:
December 1, 201411 yr If you fly mostly tubeliners, FSX / P3D is still probably the best option. If you like GA and flying VFR, X-plane 10 is, IMO, the best option, as well as if helicopters are another must for you - forget about any version of helicopters for FSX, including those with external FDMs - great job but they can't really compare to what XP10 offers right out of the standard install... XP10 is also ahead IMO in terms of what is NOW possible to do with the FDM - meaning with the new 6 datarefs I consider FUNDAMENTAL for fine tuning of not only prop aircraft! December 1, 201411 yr Moderator I haven't been tempted by X-PLANE yet, at the moment I have ditched FSX just to lose the popping autogen in favour of small stutters with p3dv2.3. This is one of the things that pushed me over to X-Plane. I love photoscenery and detailed autogen, example FranceVFR, and what ruined it was the fuzzy scenery and popups with the trees and autogen. Eventually I realiased that X-Plane does such a better job and haven't looked back since, even creating my own airports and scenery
December 2, 201411 yr I still fly both. Having just built a new computer, framerates are no longer an issue with either sim. But here are some things that influence me greatly. My FSX setup on my "old" quad core machine had a ton of add-ons: GEX, UT, ASX, FS Genesis terrain mesh and a handful of commercial aircraft. Sliders had to be pulled back, autogen, water and clouds especially, and compromises on AA and filtering. Even so, the results were flyable. I hate the flat runways and airport contained areas in FSX but that only matters (usually) when flying GA stuff into remote airstrips that may be buried in a hole or raised on a platform. Eye candy in FSX is only good if you have the horsepower to push it. But with a much faster computer, I find I bump up against the 4GB RAM limit of FSX in old 32bit code. I still fly FSX because I like several of the commercial aircraft and because it works well most of the time, but its days are numbered and development from outside vendors has slowed as they move to XP. X-Plane 10 I'm running in 64-bit on a wickedly fast computer now. Even with HD mesh installed, it is smooth as glass, and flying out in rural areas, XP isn't struggling to load as much autogen scenery as FSX, yet still displays appropriate forests and roads and water. In addition, the sim community for XP seems to be thriving with dozens of new airports offered free every week. Airport construction is somewhat easier for XP which encourages non-commercial airport construction by users, and the European community has excelled at many of their shared offerings. P3D is old 32-bit code based on FSX. It is apparently intended only for instrument practice and does not seem to be developing for the hobbyist community. 32-bit code is extremely limited when dealing with photo-realistic scenery or heavy applications of autogen objects. Some add-ons for FSX work in P3D, many do not, and I am reluctant to step into those outdated waters when FSX works so well for me now. My "old" quad core is Win 7 and my new machine is Win 8.1. Some have said there are problems with 8.1. I haven't found any yet other than seeing my USB controller settings messed up from time to time in FSX. I've had control axis "switched" from one controller to another when loading FSX, so I wonder what's up with that. I've had to always check control surfaces when starting a flight from a fresh startup. Either Win 8.1 or FSX is losing my settings. No problem in XP. Another nightmare with FSX is moving it from one computer to another. XP is all contained in one folder so you simply copy the main folder to the new machine and you're good to go. In FSX, files are scattered all over the HD and you can't just copy it along with your add-ons - a real pain. So as Win 7 is phased out, FSX dies, and XP continues to be developed in 64-bit, the handwriting is on the wall for me. i7-4790K o/c @ 4.8 GHz, Corsair H-110 liquid cooler, 32 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM, MSI Maximus VII Hero mobo Samsung Pro 512 GB SSD Corsair GFX Hydro GTX-1080 8 GB, (2) 4TB hybrid HDs Win 10 (1607), X-Plane 10.51r2 and X-Plane 11.01b1
