January 18, 201313 yr I love the Skymaster--it offers great views out of the cockpit and it just looks "cool" in flight. Enjoy the screenshots! John
January 18, 201313 yr I went there for our honeymoon 5 years ago. Very nice area with many vineyards, reminding me of my native landscape - the Rhone Valley, France. That's the only common point, though. Thanks for this nice trip !
January 19, 201313 yr Great pics...I live in Napa, thats some nice scenery...also eagerly awaiting FTX's rendition of the area. Cheers TJ "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Tejon 'TJ' Stanley
January 19, 201313 yr Great pics...I live in Napa, thats some nice scenery...also eagerly awaiting FTX's rendition of the area. Cheers TJ I lived in Napa just shy of three decades--from the mid 60's until the mid 90's (although I traveled so much in the early 90's I was in Napa only a few weeks out of the year--I would stay with family). I loved Napa--I used to bicycle from Napa to Santa Rosa and back, or from Napa into Lake County and back (what we used to call century rides). I was fit enough that I could do the century rides in five hours with stops. My first flight in a general aviation aircraft was out of Napa County airport, and back then I would also take glider rides from the glider port that used to be in Calistoga. I used to fly with William Garnett ( http://en.wikipedia...._(photographer) ), he'd take me and a close friend of mine up with him so we could do photo shoots from his Cessna. When I married I promised my wife a home, and that's how I ended up moving to Phoenix--homes in Napa simply couldn't be purchased on an I.T. instructors salary back in those days. So that's how I ended up moving away from my little piece of paradise (although Arizona is also paradise in its own way). My parents continued to live in Napa until my father passed away in '99. My Mom moved out to Arizona to be near me two years later. When my father passed away my Mom told me that she and my father wanted to be buried together and had made arrangements to that effect, so when my Mom passed away I flew her to Napa and laid her to rest beside my father. That was my last visit to Napa, in 2009. While I was there I spent some time walking around downtown Napa, which looked really nice with the Riverfront development. Then a friend of mine took my wife and I upvalley (the same friend who used to fly with me in Bill Garnett's Cessna) and we went to dinner. I sensed my Mom was up there watching, making sure we had a very fond memory of Napa. John John
January 21, 201313 yr Very nice shots. They look just right. Bet all those folks down on the ground are celebrating for the 49'ers!
January 21, 201313 yr Very nice shots. They look just right. Bet all those folks down on the ground are celebrating for the 49'ers! When the Cardinals aren't winning (like this year), I am for the 49'ers as they were my home team longer than any other team. I even had a chance to meet Joe Montana during the 49'ers glory days in the 80's. He is a very nice, down to earth guy and he treated the staff at my hotel in the Napa Valley very kindly--they all loved him. He later took up residence in the Napa Valley. I'm afraid I'll miss the Super Bowl this year. I am flying to Orlando on Feb. 2nd and I think my wife would not be very happy if I sat in our hotel watching the Super Bowl. But I will be hoping the 49'ers win..... Even if they don't, both Baltimore and the 49'ers fought with a lot of heart today--either team deserves to win the Super Bowl. John
