January 26, 201313 yr AVSIM is an enduring institution in the virtual aviation world providing a dependable and consistent platform to exchange knowledge and ideas. Over the years many of the leading flight simulation software and hardware gurus have graced these forums, gathering and honing their skills while dramatically increasing the quality of our hobby. Although a few names may stand out above others, the list of unique contributors is long and varied and we thank them one and all. Hardware Forums Moderator Paul Johnson has put together the AVSIM Software and Hardware Guide for both the DX9 and DX10 versions of FSX. It incorporates the latest and best techniques and the tried and true standbys into detailed instructions on what to do and how to do it. Paul will periodically update the guide as needed on a regular basis as new information, equipment and methods evolve. We hope that you will benefit from the accumulated wealth of knowledge presented here. January 26, 201313 yr Just had a quick skim and learnt something new already about mips and alphas. That's an impressive amount of information crammed in but still easy to read. I'll share this with my friends who are more casual users or FSX. Will read the whole thing later but for now I say thanks!
July 26, 201312 yr I just tried having a look at this PDF guide but when I click the link I get a message I don't have permissions although I'm already logged in?
July 26, 201312 yr OK, thanks! Although not a newbie in this community I'm all new to DX10 and thought maybe I should finally give it a try but I can't even get FSX to start after enabling the DX10 Preview checkbox and thought maybe there's something about it in that guide but found lots of other places to look for DX10- related info as well so guess I'll have to do some reading...
July 26, 201312 yr I'm getting this error when trying to open it. I'm logged in. So I don't think it's that? I don't know which error message is the correct error message - 404, permissions, what? But, anyway, I'd like to see this doc somehow. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Sorry, we could not find that or you do not have permission to access it. But, anyway, I'd like to see this doc somehow. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Thanks for your reports. I have tested this with FireFox, Internet Explorer 10 and Chrome. It works in Chrome and FireFox, not in IE. There is nothing on our side of the equation that I can detect that would prevent the download. I suspect that it has to do with *.PDF files and permissions on IE. I am still exploring, but if anyone can determine the IE fault, I would appreciate you posting it here.
July 26, 201312 yr Tom, I'm using Firefox version 22.0. Thanks. Regards, Kevin LaMal "Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings" - Shapiro2024

Max, When you get this thing hammered out, you'll be amazed at the difference. When Steve finishes his DX10 all in one fixer tool, there will be no reason for anyone to use DX9 again. July 27, 201312 yr Okay, back to the drawing board. Tom, so I just got home from work and tried again...this time using Safari v6.0.5 from my macbook and still I get the same error. Is there some kind of account level permissions or something that I'm missing? Anyone else having problems accessing the file? July 27, 201312 yr Max, When you get this thing hammered out, you'll be amazed at the difference. When Steve finishes his DX10 all in one fixer tool, there will be no reason for anyone to use DX9 again. Solved my initial problem which was caused by some left over SweetFX files. Did some initial testing and I'm impressed with how smooth FSX is running on DX10 but I do have some issues with pink airport buildings, white IVAO MTL aircraft as well as white Aerosoft AES jetways and marshaller I need to find a fix for if possible. If these issues can't be fixed I'm afraid I'll have to go back to using DX9 again. I wonder if Addon Converter X would fix these issues...?
July 27, 201312 yr Steve's super duper DX10 fixer upper will get rid of all those issues and many more when it is released. Very soon, I hope. Dennis Trawick Screen Shot Forum Rules
July 27, 201312 yr Can someone please post this guide somewhere else? Like in the file library? Regards, Kevin LaMal "Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings" - Shapiro2024
