January 31, 201313 yr Hi I'm new here and I do not know if I am posting in the right place or correctly, and apologies if I'm not.... I have recently purchased FSX acceleration pack deluxe edition, Saitek Yoke, & pedals. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate, Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU [email protected] 32 bit Operating system NVIDIA GeForce GTX660ti 2 x Hanns G HG281D Monitors and 1 x HZ281 (Both 1920x1200) Ok, firstly, I am having a problem getting the 3 screens to line up so everything looks good. I can get it nearly there by setting the un-docked views to virtual cockpit, panning with the Hat button, linking all, and zooming in and out but it never lines up horizons and runways correctly? The 2 monitors on either side seem to be at the wrong angle? I have read many forums about changing values in cfg files from false to true in wideangle setting, frame rates, triple head to go (which I dont have btw) screen resolution, and many many other things and having tried all these things, nothing seems to work. Am I doing something wrong? Please let me know how I can fix this and what settings I should have. The next problem is that even with my new 660ti, I cannot seem to get the graphics to look good without the game crashing, or telling me that memory has run out. Do I need a 2nd 660? (I have improved the memory problem by using Firefox instead of chrome because chrome uses far more as you can see in the task manager) Even with graphics set to high or medium, the two side windows are not good in most missions. Again, please tell me the correct settings on either game or nvidia or monitor settings. What frame rate and other graphic settings should I be using for my monitors/card please? Lastly, I cannot seem to save the position of my 3 views so that they start that way every time I run the game. I spend ages getting them just ok, and then when the game is restarted I'm back to the center screen only Very frustrating and time consuming to the point where I do not feel like playing any more! I have tried using a panel store program i found in a forum somewhere, but it doesn't work. Just says ini file not found all the time either in panel store or panel restore. Please help! I just wanna fly! .- -. -.. / --- -. / - .... . / ... . ...- . -. - .... / -.. .- -.-- --..-- / --. --- -.. / --. .- ...- . / -- . / .-- .. -. --. ...

January 31, 201313 yr A good start would be to tell us if and how you have setup the 3 monitors from the beginning. - did you use Nvidia Surround utility including the Bezel Management utility to set them up initially? - what resolution did you end up with? - how do you have them connected - DVI, HDMI, etc to which monitors? Taking this one step ata time Im sure we'll figure it out. Also complete the system info in your profile so we can all see your total system hardware. Ron W
February 1, 201313 yr There was a tool, which allow You to save undocked windows positions... I do remember it's name was "Panel Position". Please take a look and give it a try. Bartłomiej Ender
February 1, 201313 yr Author Hi @Ron ...- did you use Nvidia Surround utility including the Bezel Management utility to set them up initially? No - what resolution did you end up with? Dont know how to check - how do you have them connected - DVI, HDMI, etc to which monitors? dvi to two and hdmi to one @Bartender...I have tried using a panel store program i found in a forum somewhere, but it doesn't work. Just says ini file not found all the time either in panel store or panel restore.
February 1, 201313 yr If you don't know how to check your resolution then you really need to do some reading. You have Google. Google is your friend. Type "how to check computer screen resolution" and instantly you will have your answer. You can also ask how to setup multiple monitors in Win7. Or, right click your mouse on the desktop and open the Nvidia. Utility. Everything will be revealed. You can determine your resolution, manage surround, multiple monitors, pretty much everything you are trying to do. Ron W
February 1, 201313 yr ...... you really need to do some reading. Ron said it all. There is no "short cut" to setting up/tuning any of the features or hardware of FSX. Neal Howard
February 1, 201313 yr Author Hi 1920 x 1200 is the native resolution of all 3 monitors. I am not sure what you mean by 'what resolution did you end up with'? It says in the screen resolution window that 1920x1200 is the recommended resolution for one of the hg281d's and the hz281. Strangley enough though it says that 1920x1080 is the recommended res for the other hg281d. Why would the two same models have different res? Anyway I have them in this order.... hg281d -No.1 (rec.1920x1080) identifying as screen 1 plugged into hz281 (rec. 1920x1200) identifying as screen 2 plugged into the lower dvi hg281d - No. 2 (rec.1920x1080) identifying as screen 1 plugged into upper dvi They are actually two dual-link DVI connectors (one DVI-I and one DVI-D), a single HDMI port, and one DisplayPort output which I am intending to use a 4th monitor (Acer x193w 1440x900) for controls above my head I will update my profile asap.
February 2, 201313 yr I think the reason for the different resolutions is that one of the LCD's is a slightly different widescreen ratio than the other two. Im not sure how this will effect the end result but I would place that one in the middle. You will need to use the Nvidia Surround utility to create one single image across all 3 screens. The end result will be a resolution of approx 6000 x 1080 including the bezel managemnt setup. Its far too complex an operation to describe in this forum but if you google the "how to" there are very good step by step procedures. Its not difficult, just takes time and patience. If you try to connect that 4th LCD you will bring FSX to a dead stop. Your cpu would never handle that many graphics. Do your Nvida Surroumd setup first, then experiment with other visuals. Once you have your surround finished, write down the finished resolution. Open up your fsx.cfg file (use notepad) and scroll down to where it lists your graphics card and current resolution. Change the resolution to your new one, save the file and start FSX. If you dont do this, there is a good chance FSX will crash a few times until it finally registers your new resolution. Thats probably enough for now and is really step 1 anyway. Ron W
February 2, 201313 yr Author Mornin... Ok, I will do all that soon as I get a few hours to mess about with it. Would another gtx660ti card Let me run fsx at full settings with 4 monitors? A friend of mine was looking into some upgrades for my machine and recommended these parts. Can you let me know what you think and if they would make a big difference? ASRock Z77 Pro 4 S1155 Intel Z77 ATX Ivybridge Ready Motherboard Intel CPU Core i5 3470 Quad Core Processor Corsair Memory Vengeance Jet Black Low Profile 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz CAS 9 XMP Dual Channel Desktop He also said I may need a better CPU than the 500w I have. I also play battlefield3 and my parts advisor above does too and though he knows i play fsx he knows little about it I just wanna make sure those parts will run fsx as well as bf3 Or if not what parts would suit better?
February 2, 201313 yr I'm more of an ASUS MB fan and dont have much experience with Intel boards. Highly recommend you download the following FSX hardware guide for specific info directly related to FSX. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/398016-avsims-official-software-and-hardware-guide-for-fsx/ This will help a lot to make good descisions about spending $$. One very big issue is to move from Win7-32bit to the 64bit version. Currently your Win7 cannot utilize any memory above 3.6GB which means money spent on more memory is wasted although very much required to handle the graphics and other CPU and memory load. Adding another GPU will allow you to add visuals but your current PC will not likely handle it. An 850W PSU is more what you will require, especially if you go with 2 GPU's. More is better! The 660ti you've chosen is an excellent choice but the rest of your pc is unfortunately insufficient to really enjoy FSX. The guide mentioned above will help a lot. Ron W
February 2, 201313 yr Author Hi Ok, I tried selecting 'configure surround' in nvidia control panel, then 'span displays with surround'. Is that the bezel management? I'm now getting 5600x1200, after dragging across all 3 monitors but even when zoomed out fully the resolution is big and nasty lol
February 2, 201313 yr Ok, sounds good. Cant recall what the bezel mgmt is named but it basicaly takes the LCD frames out of the view so that when an object moves across the screen its like having window posts - much more realistic. Once youve set that up you will probably get neer the 6000 x 1200. Ron W
