2nd Monitor or Pedals?

Featured Replies

I cant decide on my next upgrade.

A 2nd monitor for gauges, maps, radio etc

or

Saitek Combat Pedals.

Opinions?

depends on what you're flying.

NGX - no,since real pilots don't use them.

I have Saitek Pedals, and they are handy for taxiing, but not much else.

X-Plane 12 and MSFS2020  🙂

System specs: Windows 11  Pro 64-bit, Ubuntu Linux 20.04 i7-13700KF  Gigabyte Z790 RTX-4060-Ti , 32GB RAM  1X 2TB M2 for X-Plane 12,  1x256GB SSD for OS. 1TB drive MSFS2020

pedals!

NG (and all other airliners) pilots use pedals, just try severe crosswind landing without any rudder input.

I made mistake when I bought my saitek pro flight yoke without pedals, tried few flights and saw it cannot be flown that way.

Pedals IMHO.

That's one of the oddest statements I have seen here.

IMHO go for pedals before 2nd monitor.

I fly mostly prop aircraft in FSX (C172, P51) and have been getting familiar with DCS:A-10C when I want my head to explode.

I have the twist function on my T16000.M but it just never feels right and I end up over controlling the rudder for all uses.

On the other hand having more screen real-estate for instrumentation would be very nice.....

Im going to do both eventually just having a hard time deciding which should be first.

Rudder can be done via buttons or joystick. There is no getting around more screen space.

I say get the monitor, much more pleasurable not flipping through tons of windows all the time.

If you fly props than rudder is even more important for almost every stage of flight, and in these aircrafts there are not so many panels and switches that would demand more screens space. For airliners it would be hard decision, for GA props with small cocpits and just a few systems its not.

At the end of day its your money and your decision, I do not want to push my mind to you. :)

When I first got rudder pedals, I wasn't sure how much use they were. It wasn't until I'd flown with them for some time that I came to rely on them. Wouldn't do without them now.

Extra screen real estate is always useful, but how often would you use it? If I had a second screen, I'd probably find several uses for it, but I haven't missed not having one.

I went ahead and ordered the Saitek combat pedals. They should be here today!

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Pedals because you need them for take off, landing, wind, turns. Monitor dime a dozen. pedals and yoke most important tools to fly. Fly low a slow pedals are required.

Great choice, have fun with your new equipment.
