GEX ground textures major upgrade head's up...

Featured Replies

For a 'small niche' market their sure is a huge amount of choice. Long may it prosper. You get nothin for nothing :) we all have a choice... for now. I'm just glad I don't develop for FSX lol.

Personally, of all the scenery's out there GEX has been a permanent addition. Well done Devs.

Too bad Nick, you don't choose to come to this forum to check on any posting that might concern, or reference your work, alongside your partner. Too bad, because you will never know that in taking off from Oakland, California today headed at 10,000 ft towards my destination at Vancouver's Sea Plane Base....

that you have, with GEX North America v1.099 and, my also using the program SHADE to back light the mountains, have hit an absolute HOME RUN! The new graphics, and ground textures in their v1.099 color maps are dead on! I mean dead freakin' on! It is sunny out over the north arm of the San Francisco Bay area right now as I type, and I have to tell you...at 10,000 feet, the new ground features, as well and most importantly, the color of the terrain is again, I repeat, not close, not almost there, but dead on to actual area visuals. I am beyond satisfied with this latest version. I am also having a blast exploring Central America, but that is not why I am posting. Since getting v1.099, I am having a blast re-exploring the state of California as well as the Baja Peninsula. I am always striving and clawing for every inch of virtual realism below my wing, and this version advances this in a major way. I am very satisfied, with this ground covering the width and breath of North America. Well done. Well done, sir!

I post in Avism Forums, and hope that you might see my comment as to your work.

Post Edit: I just wanted to add that with FSX running full bore in all graphic settings, I am pulling 25-30 (capped at 30) FPS at any given time. Your graphics give great visuals, with no major FPS drop, at least as I see upon my rig.

I dont have 1.099 or any of the other GEX except NA, but isnt buying another region the same thing as an upgrade fee? Even if i dont fly in those regions its still an upgrade fee to the 1.099 no matter how you look at it. What I dont understand is why Europe is not an option.

If your going to go that route in having the fee through other products then it should include them all.

IMHO

Damn straight, it's an upgrade fee. Which isn't, in itself, bad, except that the folks at GEX continue to tout their "upgrades are always free!" policy. Continuing to claim that, while adding the equivalent of a fine-print "...as long as you buy something you may not want -- and at full price" is what rubs me the wrong way. That isn't free, no matter what fancy footwork you use to try to avoid that inconvenient fact.

And the reason Europe isn't included seems to me rather obvious: the folks at GEX know that one would sell anyway. I'm willing to bet that the three regions (of which you have to buy one to get 1.099) are at the bottom of the barrel in terms of GEX sales.

In the posts quoted here, Nick speaks of doing this is to avoid "going bankrupt." I wonder if GEX might be in some financial difficulty that makes them see a need to get revenue by finding a creative way to "monetize" their previously free upgrade policy?
