February 9, 201313 yr You need to buy the different zones because most areas share textures from different zones. So it makes sense. Personally I love flying with Ultimate Terrain and Ground Environment textures. I almost had a heart attack reading this topic, thinking how I did a huge upgrade a few months ago downloading uninstalling reinstalling. lol.
February 9, 201313 yr http://i.imgur.com/7tIc1PY.jpg Thanks for the image. Do you have a close-up (i.e., on final approach)? The default textures near LSGG look artificial, blurry, and terrible.
February 9, 201313 yr Does anyone have any images of KSEA Seattle area? What would be really nice is to see a comparison between the new 99 version and the previous version. Regards Bob Officially retired

Me too, this info finally made me do a much needed cleanup and when finished I ordered some new stuff. Got all the FSGlobal packs, UTX'es and GEX'es that I did not own before, and upgraded the ones I own. So now I am in for a 10 hour installation marathon
February 13, 201313 yr Author Well, today I decided to fully invest in GEX and UTX for the areas that I tend to fly most over. So with that being stated, today I picked up: GEX America Tropics and Carribean and also the UTX product that lays under it. My decision to drop another $70.00 on GEX/UTX is thus: I have all the other GEX and UTX invested in FSX other than Asia. I do fly to Central America as well Hawaii and the Caribbean. I am already pleased with the view (GEX/UTX) from lift-off, to dropping rubber on the distant 'numbers'. GEX and UTX does a fine job in each region. I'd rather drop another $70.00, than $199.00 for Orbx's total world coverage. Like I stated, I'm already invested with the GEX UTX combo, and am enjoying ORBX in the larger regions that I really want the level of low altitude realism that it absolutely does offer. So all in all, I am now happy to put away my wallet, and enjoy the more expansive and well defined areas of flight that adding GEX American Tropics, etc and its companion UTX to the stable affords. By the way, USA/CANADA now at version 1.99 is/was worth the price of adding a region that I already fly over but was merely FSX crude, to get it. Very nice, Nick...very nice. (large smile). Edit: Nick, I'm just paused in a flight having taken off from San Diego (KSAN), and the terrain/ground color is spot on. No more garish green. Fabulous! The suburbs LOOK real now. The streets, and houses (v 1.99) with their proper density and orientation (with full out graphics settings)...wonderful, man, wonderful. Back to the flight! Mitch
February 14, 201313 yr I have of the GEX regions and I also have ORBX regions for NA, AU and NZ. In NA however, I mostly use SimSavvy photoreal which I think is amazing. If I had my way I wish the whole world was photo real. I think I am going to wait and get ORBX world for the other parts of the world. I have been staying in NA mainly because of the NGX. When the 777 and 747 v.2 come out I will be more interested flying to other parts of the world. Mike Keigley
February 14, 201313 yr I have both Europe 2.30 and the North America 1.096 versions, since I fly on those two continents only . As I understood, you get North America updated to 1.099 only if you purchase Africa or Asia or South America and Carribean packages, and that is not happening on my side. This is totally unfair to someone who exclusively flies in North America. I did download the 1.096 update and it looks really good. A quote pulled from Flight1's SimForum GEX section: "NickN has been saying the difference between GEX NA 1.096 and 1.099 is very noticeable and a big upgrade." I have seen screenshots of the 1.099 version and they do indeed look a lot better. My question is why would I have to buy any of the other packages that I know I won't be using the textures from just to get the update to North America? Paying $35 is unrealistic for the incremental change. However, I would be willing to pay $15 (or so) to get the update. Has GEX considered some arrangement like that? After all, if you are a Financial Officer for GEX, isn't getting $15 (or so) better than getting nothing?

It states that you can do an "automatic" upgrade by purchasing another product, but above that information are the links to download the files which permit installation of the NA region with no other regions necessary. Has anyone asked this question over on the GEX suppport forum ? It doesn't affect me as I don't fly in NA, but if it is as stated above then that does indeed sound out of line with the way those folks usually operate. Over the years I've had a ton of upgrades from them, representing a massive amount of work, and all have been free. There has to be a very good reason why NA can't be upgraded for free or nominal cost.

Here is a direct quote from NickN in the Flight1 SW Forums\GEX\Road Texture Thread: "In the mean time we are offering upgrades to NA through other products. That way we can stay in business, not go bankrupt and offer more of the world with discounts at the same time." This certainly seems amiss to me. Looks like they are forcing us to buy some of their least best selling areas just to get the update to the one we want.
February 14, 201313 yr This certainly seems amiss to me. Looks like they are forcing us to buy some of their least best selling areas just to get the update to the one we want. My thoughts exactly. I own both NA and EU, and I am not buying any other part because I simply wont be utilizing it, I can live without those new improved textures. February 14, 201313 yr My thoughts too. I fly exclusively in Europe and North America. Considering the improvement, I would have accepted to pay some fee to go from 1.096 to 1.099. But I shall not buy an add-on that will not be of any use to me just to get the improved U.S.A. textures. I do not like this marketing method, but in the end it is always the customer who has the last word : to buy or not to buy (no pun intended). And when Orbx Global scenery is out, I will seriously consider it and if I like it, I shall uninstall all GEX textures. Jean-Jacques Jean-Jacques Struyf between EBBR and EBCI
February 14, 201313 yr Haha, so I would have to purchase full-price a region I never visit for a slight visual increase? I understand the business aspect of it as it is such a niche market, but still have to pass on this.I would rather they just redo NA, call it Ver 2.0 and sell it as a reduced upgrade price for current owners. I can't see buying Timbuktu so Jersey doesn't seem so washed out.
