February 7, 201313 yr The new update is very good. I have all regions in GEX and UTX and Scenery Tech Landclass, I have now started mesh layer with FSGenisis, I originally figured there was going to be little or no difference, I was very wrong. This better mesh layer is really topping up my FSX world. (and all these products works well together on this older machine).
February 7, 201313 yr It's downloaded and waiting to be installed and flown in the morning I've tried ORBX EU and was not really that much impressed. I tried FSAltutude and although really good when your up high I couldn't live with the way the original GEX or default scenery world popped up at low altitude just took away from the immersion for me. My perfect combination is UTX, GEX, ExperienceX and FSGenisis makes my FSX world look really good. So can't wait for the morning
February 7, 201313 yr I have not been that active in the past few months, but on the forums off and on and never did see any adverts to GEX. Did I miss them? It seems that this upgrade is impressive based on some of the commenting but I am confused as to why there was not a lot of talk about this when they became available 2 months ago. February 7, 201313 yr Commercial Member I saw the screenshots gallery for GEX EU,and I can't tell the difference from earlier version, it does look identical to me. Of course, if they updated the gallery. In my opinion FTX Global will blow away GEX so easily. Anyone saw the comparison shots of Germany, DEX vs. FTX Global? I was amazed how good FTX looks compared to DEX. And it's funny because DEX is dedicated Germany scenery overhaul like VFR Germany from Aerosoft. Bob --------------------------------------------------------- I only found out about the uni-version mask and texture upgrades by clicking on the on-mask UPDATE check button for one of my two GEX packages. I didn't see any discussion or FYI's either. That is why I thought to give my head's up post yesterday afternoon.
February 7, 201313 yr The GEX updates were well publicised on their support forum over at Simforums. Quite wisely IMO, given the size of the upgrades and major (major) improvement changes to the installation/upgrade process, they were fairly cautious about its release. But I agree with pretty much everything said above - the latest textures in conjuction with UTX, Genesis mesh (and ST landclass in my case) are superb from all levels. Until these came out I too was looking forward to FTX EU, but having installed the (free) upgrade to GEX EU I really don't need it.
February 7, 201313 yr I couldn't disagree more regarding MSEv2. Some people don't like perfectly flat photoscenery with no autogen whatsoever. I'm one of them. And it's too much work to download upgraded textures? Forgive me for asking, but how did your MSEv2 arrive? Was it delivered in a white blanket by a stork, who promptly ran the installer for you afterward? To each, their own. I couldn't disagree more regarding MSEv2. GEX looks good, but I hate way it updates work forced to buy another region to get free update it reminds me of bait and switch car salesmen. Well, photo scenery with good clouds, waters, landmarks looks good to me. A users lot will go to Orbx world anyways can't blame them with GEX tactics for re-install forcing you to buy other regions for updates. Each to their own i guess. Want winter that what ole FS2004 is for.
February 7, 201313 yr Yes, indeed, I got the *FREE* upgrade first hand from simforums.com. It's a huge change to earlier versions, I'd understand if they charged for it but they don't! It's amazing artwork, some shots: Switchboard - Track Your Simulator Add-ons - Throttle Quadrant
February 7, 201313 yr That's absolutely stunning! Thanks for the screenshots. I'd be more than willing to pay for that again. Are there any significant performance changes compared to the older version? Flo Florian

Are there any significant performance changes compared to the older version? Flo No, not at all. According to Flight1 the autogen performance was further improved but I can't tell the difference, personally. With the new quality (see the tree shadows in the second shot - that's not autogen!) I tend to fly without autogen for most flights, anyway. Here are a few more shots with no autogen: Switchboard - Track Your Simulator Add-ons - Throttle Quadrant
February 7, 201313 yr Yeah, I see no difference With the hassle of 6 hours of upgrade, I'll wait till FTX global.
February 7, 201313 yr I don't count frames, but I (and others) have noticed some performance improvement with this and the previous major upgrade to GEX EU. But I fly with autogen at a fairly high level (necessary if you fly low and slow), and one of the things they say they do is balance the autogen loading better across tiles, which may account for the smoother flight that I am experiencing.

Flo Don't know about performance increase in terms of fps but seems to run smoother for me around urban/cities - can't fault the cost of the upgrade one bit!!! February 7, 201313 yr I don't know why but GEX screenshots always hurt my eyes. Must be something personal. There is something about it I just don't like. Maybe it's the chaotic textures? The odd colors...? Everytime I see a GEX topic I have a look, hoping I will see something that will make me buy it, but it never happens. BTW I just did a one hour flight above Blue Sky Scenery for the first time... After doing so the above screenshots with those roads racing right through houses look even worse then before... Yikes. (Yes, I know, that's not a GEX specific problem.)
