GEX North America Versions 1.099 & 2.0

Featured Replies

I have GEX and UTX North America, have had it for some time, looks great through many different altitudes and is reasonably accurate considering its autogen. However I see all these upgrades and I have GEX world updated, however its only to 1.096 and I am not sure its worth the cost to get it to 1.099, I have heard talk of a V2.0 coming soon, not sure if this is true or not, can anyone please tell me if 2.0 for NA is in the works or if the 1.099 upgrade is worth it?

Please keep in mind that I fly in the continental USA almost 95% of the time.

Pretty sure upgrades are free unless I have missed something.

Yes and no. For NA Ver 1.096 is free. If you want the latest update Ver 1.099 you have to purchase their Caribbean textures.

Thanks

Just upgraded GEX-NA for free to version 1.096. No further update is available per UI update checker. What is 1.099 all about?

1.099 is an upgrade if you purchase their pacific/atlantic tropics OR africa/middle east package. The reason being that those packages share some of the same textures but they were created more recently and have had some "upgrades" in visual quality.

"The upgrade region releases are FREE to existing GEX region customers. If you currently own a GEX region (download or DVD) you can upgrade for FREE."

Not quite true Jim. As I said the 1.099 upgrade requires purchase of either of the two packages I mentioned.

"The v1.096 upgrade is free for GEX North America.

Installation of any ONE of these three GEX regions:

GEX Africa and the Middle East - v1.20

GEX Atlantic and Pacific Tropics - v1.10

GEX Asia and South America - v1.0

....will automatically upgrade GEX North America from v1.096 to v1.099."

You need to purchase one of those packages.

Another quote from their forum.

"If you buy additional GEX products, the version gets upgraded at that point."

You cannot update without an added purchase, it's not separately available.

And another.

"Also I am just wondering why not make this upgrade available to those who are just using GEX NA? Surely I can't be the only one in this situation being left scratching my head? "

Need any more?

Looks like this when all areas are purchased

Why not just charge for the upgrade outright instead of hiding it behind another product sale?

I hate this kind of marketing.

Well if they did it that way, you would be double paying if you also wanted one of the other areas too. Once for the upgrade, and again for the new package, that uses the same textures. So in this case it's better for us to do it the way they are doing it!!

Thanks

There's some comparison shots between 1.096 and 1.099 in this thread:

http://www.simforums...topic45001.html

The colors in the new version look pretty nice. Less dull/more vibrant.

Thanks those pictures were something I was looking for, surprisingly my Google searches were not coming up with that. Seems like the textures like others have said are a bit more vibrant and placing seems to be more random making it look more authentic, still not quite convinced its worth more money.

Anyone here anything about a GEX NA V2, I have only seen a few forum threads regarding this with no specific information, anyone run across some info on this or is it just another rumor?

Note: I would think that Flight1 would be pushing real hard (not that they certainly aren't trying right now) to compete with FTX Global. I am quite sure the GEX team is well aware of FTX's reputation for extreme quality. I have seen land textures with autogen placement from FTX with 2cm, I am not asking for the world to be in 2cm textures (although with the right super computer that would be awesome), just that making NA have a radical change like their EU product went through.

If there are upgraded textures for North America, why aren't they in the North America Upgrade? Why must I purchase a different product/region to get upgraded textures for my North America product?

And to Spartan: I think I saw something about NA 2.0 being out next year, but I don't have a link to reference.

It's better if you have any interest in any of those areas. If not, it's essentially paying double for a "free" upgrade, then getting a region you have no intention of flying in for free.
