A New G1000 Idea

Featured Replies

I know with the sr-22, there was a lot of complaint about the g1000 not being fully functional. I know that for some (like me) this is an up, while for others, this is a huge drawback. That got me thinking, if Carenado could release a cheap update the would give the g1000 full functionality. From Carenado's recent releases, it seems that the current g1000 simulation is going to be seen many more times over. If Carenado were to release a cheap update pack that would give all of there g1000 planes full functionality, that would please both sides of the fence. I know that I would buy it, when I finally want to learn full systems for all of the planes.

I would definitely purchase certain Carenado aircraft if they possessed mostly complete G1000s. Such is obviously desirable, but I think the main issue is that it is easier said than done: modelling a fully functional G1000 would be costly, detrimental to performance, and time-consuming.

The other side of this issue is the lack of hardware needed to support such a thing. It is already a pain in the butt to use the key pad with a mouse and trackIR. I use a second monitor for pop ups, and regrettably, it's too small for the pop ups in this plane. Resizing the pops makes it hard to read, as well as access the click spots. Of course a full size monitor is inevitable, but that'll have to wait until the TBM is out.

It would have been nice to have alt/course knobs on the PFD, even if it's not true of the real thing.

Well, it would have to run outside of FSX, just like RealityXP does (IIRC).

It has to be remembered that Carenado is a 35-45 range product. They do "decent" planes with perfect graphics, not "Premier" planes with perfect systems. Even though they have leaned in that direction on the last couple planes (I still think the JetProp is one of the very best of all time, for example), I've seen no indication from them of going that route.

Now that I think about it... The TBM850/SR22GTX are the first New planes they have tried.

While I like the idea I don't think the words "cheap" and "G1000" go together.

Flight 1 has the best and their things are a little more expensive reflecting the work needed.

If there was a G1000 trainer from Garmin maybe Reality XP could do something with that but I don't think there is.

I have stayed away from Carenado G1000s because I know I'll be a little disappointed- the G500 on the piper is ok with the reality xp update, but the EFIS (specifically the map mode) on the King Airs is terrible-however I expect not to be able to hold off on the TBM it's one of my favorite planes.

Same here. I would hope the community Mod Squad can really help us out when the TBM comes out. Everyone should expect some kind of bug, regardless what that may be. I've already parked my C90 for good. It's too slow, too old, and too big for my missions. The TBM and a modern Meridian are spot on perfect personal AC.

Having said that, I'm still up for the MilViz 350i... Proline and all.

Hi,

if the upcoming TBM 850 will have the same bad G1000-performance like the SR22 then it will be the first time to hold back from a Carenado-beauty ... it´ll be a show stopper. If we have a nearly fully funtional G1000 simulation like F1 nearly provide there is a justified reason to have some bigger system demands, but if some features are left out, you could hope for a better performance. And a suggestion to turn off the avionics for better performance is rediculous, like somewhere else allready mentioned.

I am really dissapointed about the Carenado´s G1000 performance and makes me cry to have to cancle myself from the TBM of these reasons!

Still cannot believe why some other 3rd party devs make it happen to have a fluid G1000 entertainment in their addons without ANY FPS-loss, just look at a known EPIC-Jet / -Turbo or Kodiak!

I really hope Carenado will read these complaints and tweak their avionics!

Best regards,

In terms of the frame rate hit, has anyone tried to mess around with the refresh rate of the displays. I don't have the tech experience to know where to find such numbers. I had heard a rumor that the TBM would not have the G1000. In terms of controlling the G1000, it would be cool if Carenado allowed the ability to use the mouse to click on things on the G1000 display, and the keyboard to type things in. That would make things a little bit faster in the end.

That would be indeed fantastic news as I am still no fan of full glass cockpits despite of the framerate hit they might give in FSX.

I´ve seen some "mixed" cockpits of the TBM 850 (glass / old Steam gauges), you can do a google search here:

Cheers!

A TBM without a G1000 is ridiculous. No one needs a full function G1000 in a sim plane anyway. That too is ridiculous. That kind of programing is a project bigger then the plane! Remember that Carenado is a 35 to 45 dollar operation. Carenado's 850 will be a G1000 plane, and no it wont have anything close to full function.

If they can do the panel as well as the JetProp (one of their very best panels IMHO), then it will be a winner.

Now I realize some of you don't have a big box like I have, and I feel your pain. I have zero issues with the SR22 (after I fixed the sound anyway). But this is how it's going to be in the future too. When you can, upgrade your computers.

I really hope Carenado will read these complaints and tweak their avionics!

I agree 100% with this. I love their planes, they are soooo good with graphics. Like i said before, the JetProp panel was/is darn good.. even still, it took the Mod Squad and a Carenado patch to get it to what it is now. So everyone should expect the same with the TBM. Sadly, it is the SOP for Carenado. Maybe MilViz or similar dev will take on the plane. It is a dream machine that i think will sell very well.

, if Carenado could release a cheap update the would give the g1000 full functionality.

The best part of the G1000 for me is the WAAS and LPVs.. if they are not there, then it doesn't feel good. But of course, we can always add the Reality xp 530 as a compensation. But G1000 and G530? Hmmm...

That came off as a little terse, and of course I mean no disrespect to anyone.

It's a real balancing job, the ultimate goal being to sell as many units as possible... for as many computer power levels. In another thread, Ron from Eaglesoft spelled it out pretty clearly:

"F1 and others have accomplished much with their G1000 FS offerings and we appreciate the fact that folks wish to have real world features and functions in a simulated environment. Real world professional training packages of the G1000 exist which are designed for professional training using FS Type environments such as FSX and P3D.Those do not deliver the full feature set of their real world counterparts and we often wonder why simmers expect that they will be able to purchase a near full featured entertainment simulator version at entertainment version costs. If we were to embark on such a course it would likely be priced far out of entertainment market norms"

... Sadly, it is the SOP for Carenado. Maybe MilViz or similar dev will take on the plane. It is a dream machine that i think will sell very well.

... SOP for Carenado ? Sorry for my missunderstanding? Won´t Carenado finish the TBM-package??? (Don´t want to start rumors)

Regarding the Computer you are right, but the BIGGEST worry is not the buying BUT the reinstalling and spending days of days to get to the point where I left my old rig ... with my family and kids I cannot afford being 48 hrs at one part infront of my pc and having a BAD mood of installing and replacing files and fixing EZDOK , FSUIPC , repaints, UTX , GEX , REX, Aerosoft, Flylogic, LLH and and and ...O...M...G! :t0116:

Best regards,

an upgrade? that would be wonderful...but that would be the first time carenado shows something like care and attention...i mean really if you include a g1000 some BASICS should be included like being able to edit your flightplan for instance...

LOL, yes... been there and done that... twice.

Re-installing FSX is like moving to a new house. It has to be well planned, and should be expected to take a couple days.
