February 18, 201313 yr I tried O&O nd the scan took 10 hours! That doesn't seem normal. how much of your 1.8tb have you used? If it is close to full then I can understand it might take a while, but I didn't think it would take 10 hrs! February 18, 201313 yr I have about 300gb in use on my laptop and it doesn't take that long. Not sure why yours is taking that long. "If you can't solve and equation with calculus, you're not using enough calculus" - A wise friend
February 18, 201313 yr I tried O&O nd the scan took 10 hours! Fixed an allegedly 17.0GB and left 1.25GB un-fixed? My HDD is 1.8TB I have a batch of MegaSceneryEarth (nothing else) loaded to my Drive "H" (dedicated scenery drive) 1.74Tb free on a 2Tb WD Black series drive. O&O defrag took 45 minutes to do the job and according to the after job report the defrag was 100% leaving zero unfixed. February 18, 201313 yr I purchased Ultimate Defrag v3 and was very unhappy with it. I use an SSD for my OS, and a pair of 1TB drives (mirrored) for my Sim and add-on. After using this product, my loading performance was no better, and possibly worse than before. By switching to O&O I was able to enjoy a marked improvement. February 19, 201313 yr purchased Ultimate Defrag v3 and was very unhappy with it. Thanks for the info, lucky I'm still on the 30 day trial period. Is there a trial for O&O or do you have to buy it? "If you can't solve and equation with calculus, you're not using enough calculus" - A wise friend

February 19, 201313 yr Be sure to read the help and set things up to run the complete/name defrag option. I bet I'll catch H from some for saying that too. Dan George (woodhick)Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.
February 20, 201313 yr Hi everyone , until now I have always used the default Defrag software on the op system , but I think it would be worth my while buying a Defrag program now . Can anyone tell which one will do the best job & also how to use the software. I have op system win 7 ultimate on 240 gig ssd , & fsx + all sceneries on a 600 gig vrap drive . I really don't want to mess this up as I have loads of software for fsx on the drive . I know not to Defrag the ssd though. go google Defraggler. Made by Piriform, the same group that does CCleaner. Good free programs Computer Specs: i5-4690K 3.5 GHz overclocked to 4.0GHz / MSI GTX 960 4GB Video Card / 16GB Kingston HyperX Fury 1866MHz DDR3 System RAM / MSI Z97-G45 Motherboard / Crucial MX200 500GB mSATA SSD
February 20, 201313 yr I've tried Defrag utilities before (free and payware), back when I didn't have all SSD's ... I honestly found absolutely no difference using them vs. doing a regular defrag that is provided by Windows OS. And those that do "active" defrags usually end up just consuming CPU cycles that could be put to better use in FSX. You can speed up drive performance by Turning off write-cache buffer flushing. This is relatively risk free if you are working with a drive that is dedicated to FSX scenery ... which is essentially read only (once the scenery is installed). To get to the property under Windows 7 Open Explorer Select your drive Right click on Drive and select Properties Select Hardware Tab Click on Properties button Select Policies Tab Check "Turn off Windows write-cache buffer flushing ..."
February 20, 201313 yr Author Interesting robain , unfortunately I have installed fsx , loads of add on payware airplanes + all my sceneries , I think some of the aircraft may also write data to the disc , not sure whether fsx needs to or not , I remember reading somewhere not to install fsx on c drive for better performance hence the op being on a 240 gig vertex 3 ssd & all fsx on 600 gig velociraptor drive. thanks again to all respondents. <p> Paul Sleight
