February 17, 201313 yr Hi everyone , until now I have always used the default Defrag software on the op system , but I think it would be worth my while buying a Defrag program now . Can anyone tell which one will do the best job & also how to use the software. I have op system win 7 ultimate on 240 gig ssd , & fsx + all sceneries on a 600 gig vrap drive . I really don't want to mess this up as I have loads of software for fsx on the drive . I know not to Defrag the ssd though.
Paul Sleight
February 17, 201313 yr OO Defrag is good Used to use it (it used to be free!)..and make sure you don't defrag the SSD! - I think the latest version of OO won't let you anyway but not sure..All my system and FSX drives are SSD so I don't use any defrag (you don't need to defrag SSD's) hope this helps, jake JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
February 17, 201313 yr At the moment, I'm trying Ultimate Defrag from DiskTrix Software. It 'optimises' certain files onto the fastest parts of your HDD, not sure if it's true of not, but it seems to be working so far. February 17, 201313 yr As jake has suggested you dont defrag ssd drives I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
February 17, 201313 yr O&O is great, easy to use. But make sure read Word Not Allowed's information on doing a proper defrag for FSX John
February 17, 201313 yr Author Ok thanks , I had heard if o&o as it was mentioned in a week guide & I've also heard of ultimate Defrag , not sure which one is supposed to be the better one. I wasn't going to Defrag my ssd , that's why I asked for advice , I assume with o&o you can select a specific drive to Defrag as I only want to Defrag the 600 gig vrap drive where only fsx , its add on planes & sceneries are installed.
Paul Sleight
February 17, 201313 yr I use Defraggler, always found it easy to use and does the job well. http://www.piriform.com/defraggler Adam
February 17, 201313 yr Game Booster 3. It's a free program. You can defrag the folder of your choice. I use it for every FSX session. February 17, 201313 yr I used to use Ult Defrag but recently changed to O&O and seem to get better results (more complete defrag according to the before/after info. Use the complete/name defrag option. Dan George (woodhick)Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.
February 17, 201313 yr I tried the Ultimate Defrag trial and read it's claims of a 400% difference in speed (really?) and it really made no difference. I went to the free Defraggler and found it actually made things faster.
February 17, 201313 yr Author Mmm , seems this is not as easy a choice as I was hoping. Thanks for the replies.
Paul Sleight
February 17, 201313 yr Author I'm not concerned about how long it takes I just really want the best results , I'm quite happy to pay for software if its worth it . If free software can achieve as good results as paid software then it would be crazy to buy software . Has anyone seen better results by using bought software , ie better scenery loading . I let iola system mechanic do its thing on my vrap drive & my frames are dancing all over the place now.
Paul Sleight
February 17, 201313 yr I used Defraggler prior to getting an SSD drive. Never had any issues with it and it's very easy to use. Chris Sunseri
