PRO ATC X flightplans and NGX

Featured Replies

No pilot just does what ATC says without confirming it with other pilotand to make sure it is reasonable and makes sense. Just watch the just planes DVDs. Maybe he is having a bad day or tired and not exactly on top of things. I did it b4 and learned my lesson. I should have been more aware of my situational awareness. Check my charts. If he descends you into the mountain did u not see on the charts the restricted altitudes? The pilot controls the aircraft not ATC. If it isn't reasonable don't do It and inform ATC to confirm instructions. In the case of Pro Arc since its a program and not a human that still has issues, I will ignore instructions and fly according to the charts.

As for the importing of the pro atc flight its been very easy so ling as your flightplan you made is proper

Although I agree that it's the pilot responsibility to not fly into a mountain, I also think BECAUSE ProATC/X is a program, it shouldn't lead you into one... The site of ProATC/X doesn't state it simulates the ATC getting tired or having a bad day... I for one don't (always) use charts and expect ProATC/X to be really and fully PRO...!

Hey Jeroen, just to stear off topic and then return, erm, I've posted these issues I'm having over at PRO ATC... any ideas? Cheers...

1) There doesn't appear any drop down list of aircraft variations other than Airbus or Boeing in the flightplanner aircraft select list.

2) It is not possible for me to create a flight plan for GA using airports in the Orbx scenery area

3) I seem unable to remove a SID or a STAR once selected in the flightplanner

If someone could offer some guidance on this I'd be grateful, cheers...

4) The latest issue seems to be more than a little of a bore... after requesting startup and pushback and a faultless pushback and taxi entry procedure I then request taxi to runway... and request taxi to runway... an yes, you guessed, no response and then the entire flight was done completely without any ATC or indeed background chatter of any description. It seems crazy not to be able to move to another ATC request in case an issue like this occurs... again, any ideas?

Bummer, Howard, this isn't your best purchase to date, is it...!?

1. I have the same! I never noticed this before because I have only used the PMDG 737NGX with ProATC/X. But at least now you know it's not a problem on your side alone... I wonder now how others managed to plan a GA flight...?

2. Hm, I'd like to test this but then I need to know which airports are added by Orbx... I didn't have Orbx enabled when I created my ProATC/X database so I should be able to test this but how do I know which airports are Orbx-only...? I don't have any addon airports installed... Do you perhaps know a few Orbx-only airports in PNW or FTX ENG? Then I can check it.

3. In the dropdown menu with SIDs and STARs the top entry always is a - . If you select that - then your previously selected SID or STAR will be removed. Take note though that if you have the Auto calculation opion ON a new SID or STAR will immediately be chosen. If you don't want that, make sure Auto is set to Off. Another option is to select the original SID or STAR, if there was any. I have to add that I never ever use this option because I always let ProATC/X decide what SID and STAR to use (or I let it depent on the real world flightplan I have imported).

Another option is to save the plan before you start messing with SIDs and STARs and when you lose track while fooling around, simply cancel the plan and you will have your saved one back.

4. Do you switch radio frequencies manually? Don't. Let the co-pilot do it. That solved a lot of problems for me (like not being able to contact the next controller). 'Serve com and nav radio' is the ONLY co pilot option I have enabled.

Hopes this helps a little... I know how frustrating it is not being able to finish a flight properly...!!!

Wow I was thinking of getting this but what a lot of BS to go thru glad I didn't buy it.

I know Rich, I am beginng to tire of it all to be frank. I know Jeroen and Mike have things sorted, so I will persevere a little longer, at least until the update is released.

Well... if it DOES work, it's quite nice!!! ^_^ Anyway, a new update (with fixes but also new stuff) will be released soon: everyone is keeping their fingers crossed, I think...!

Hi Howard...sorry you are having some difficulties with ProATC.

Near the beginning of your post you said....."BTW how is it that the ATC window keeps disappearing after I have clicked an option? Please tell me this is not normal. I always fly with the ATC options open all the time on a separate monitor..."

You can increase the amount of time the ATC window is open, you know......here's how......hope no-one has told you this already!

Start up ProATC/X, click on Options, then click the In-Flight Tab. Now look down at the bottom left of that window. See where it says "Controller Instructions as Text" - there you can pick the type and color of text. A little bit to the RIGHT of that, it says "Min display time (sec)" - just make the number larger. I don't know if you can make it indefinite - I tend to think not, but you could certainly make it stay "lit up" long enough to read it.

Hope this helps......stick with it, Howard. Mourad (the writer of ProATC/X) has been diligently fixing items and trying to put people's suggestions into the program. Seems like he really cares and wants to make the program the next big thing for FSX (for ATC). I have had very good (but not perfect) success with it so far; I enjoy it more than Radar Contact 4, and that's saying a lot - 'cause I Really liked RC4. This program is off to a very good start - IMHO. Give it some time.

All best,

Ray Landolt (Blackbird)

That's not what Howard has problems with, Ray. ;) What you are referring to is the scrolling text at the top of the screen. Howard wants to keep the menu onscreen in which you select your replies or requests. Right now that's not possible. To me this is great (the less things onscreen the better: I also disabled that scrolling text) but I can imagine someone wanting to keep it onscreen.

Thanks Ray...Sure, because I have ancilliary options open on a second monitor, like FS2Crew, my CDU etc, I also like to keep my ATC there also. The other thing that drives me mad is having different keys assigned for same options. eg to open and close one particular screen it's key 1 but with another option it's key 0... ? I mean , what's all that about? IMO using ATC should be a matter of initiating commands with as little conscious input as possible, not initiating a command by having to scour the keyboard for the correct number... BTW Jeroen, I can understand some guys, like yourself, may like to fly with the window opening on the main monitor and then of course having it disappear after a command has been initiated makes a lot of sense. I'm not a programmer, but building that in as a switchable option should be pretty straight forward I would have thought...

I can see the benefit of the switchable atc screeen. When things get a little hectic, I often used to check the atc box to see what they said....I think the programmer should populate the atc box, leave it on screen for YOU to hide if you want, when a new message appears, repopulate the box with new instruction, following on from the previous instruction. Again, pilot can close when copied.

You know, we all complain when PMDG seem to take forever to release their latest development, e.g, the 777 etc. From reading your posts, you can see now why. Sure, you can get the program out there and your customers become your greater market testers. It is more frustrating using a product with errors that really spoil the flight flow, than to wait for a few more months. Imagine if you and the other guys in this thread were official testers prior to release. Surely, the programmer would listen to your concerns and realise your issues are show stoppers and a bit(lot) more thought and coding needs to take place. No Doubt the FSX ATC is very basic to say the least. RC, is better, but has issues and it seems like pro atc-x maybe a step up again, but plain old fashioned testing and more testing and a vision not to be first, but to have a robust product before release. And my thoughts, If ATC do not give you descent clearance, because the FMC wants you to descend, is immaterial. If you are going to use the program, one of the basic rules surely has to be altitude instructions. I can certainly understand your frustration of getting closer and remaining too high then performing a "slam dunk" approach, as I recall one of the real world guys saying happens from time to time when atc are busy with other traffic.

Howard, your patience is to be commended.

All good fun though???

Regards

Hey Jeroen, how the hell are you tolerating this program. I have been using it every day this week and I am still yet to complete a full flight without something not working! So tonight I filed a plan from LIBD to LGKR. Everything works well until I request start up and pushback, then I wait, and I wait and eventually after about 5 minutes they reply. Do they offer a departure runway before taxi, nope, is this normal, surely they should offer a runway at the time I'm inputting a flightplan? Or am I wrong on this? Then once I get pushback, and I contact for clearance for taxi, I wait and I wait and I darn well wait for another 5 minutes. Eventually they tell me to go to the opposite runway than the SID has been filed for. After TO I am receiving vectors to waypoints, but then I am told to increase to FL10,000 before I even get to 5,500, then I'm told to increase height to FL190 before I get to even 7000' ! Then ATC keeps changing the aircraft flight number from Thompson to Turkish!! Once airborn I get no response at any time when I try to check in, and sometimes when I ask ATC to repeat themselves. On approach to LGKR they take me down to 3,500' 50 K's from the airport!!? Is all this common for this program, because I am done with it. When I purchased it I was happpy to accept a few niggles, but the amount of issues I'm encountering is just rediculous. I accept that some of the problems may be me being a newbie or in fact good old finger trouble, but there are many problems which appear to be straightforward bugs in the program. I am extremely unhappy. I know you have persevered Jeroen and so has Mike and I appreciate your hep and advice, but if the newly awaited update doesn't come up to par, I will simply ask for a refund.

Wow, thats a bad experience. Not sure whats up with that.

Have you made sure ProAtc.exe has administrator rights? Sounds like those things are not getting permission somehow. I would check that first.

Have you done the AIRAC and Scenery database update? and then aligned scenery?

Communicating any of these issues with Mourad by email?

I dont have nearly any of those issues you mention. It works pretty darn good except for some issues, but nothing that cant be controlled and changed myself. I have mostly successful flights.

I do know that I had problems with frequencies even with copilot doing it with older aircraft like the level D. I found out it was my systems on the aircraft. Didnt have the right configuration and it would mess up.
