February 19, 201313 yr Do you know if Gary has Popham airfield for VFR? Screenshots of Popham at: http://www.uk2000sce...iles/Page6.html I think Gary covers all the licensed airfields, even some unlicensed ones turn up (Coal Aston springs to mind) ckyliu, proud supporter of ViaIntercity.com. i5 12400F, 32GB, RTX4070, more in "About me" on my profile.

February 20, 201313 yr here is what horizon gen x scenery looks like , this is one of my youtube vids , absolutely no video editing done , just recorded with fraps & uploaded. Photoreal excels above mountains and nature but above cities or flat land the problems start... ^_^ My biggest problem with Horizon however (and which is why I always end up deactivating it again after giving it yet another try) are those reddish colors and that blueish green all over the place (specially the flat lands, which is about 80% of England?). it feels like flying above Instagram pictures. As if all the shots were made in the early seventies. The mountains in Wales look okay, though, but the area is too small to keep me entertained. Last week I downloaded Blue Sky Scenery's California: it has more natural colors, so it seems.

You can improve things a little though, make sure you fly with the season set to Summer to ensure it's lit properly. I found it looked a lot better when using the ENB-serie mod, but unfortunately it's not stable on my system so I had to ditch it, and I've yet to try SweetFX. ckyliu, proud supporter of ViaIntercity.com. i5 12400F, 32GB, RTX4070, more in "About me" on my profile.
February 20, 201313 yr I love photoreal but for the UK I like Orbx best, there seasons look spot on. photreal for me is for areas like Arizona. LAX to Vegas in photoreal is stunning. David Murden. February 20, 201313 yr Commercial Member I find the lack of seasons with photoreal almost as annoying as the lack of autogen. Another consideration should be that ORBX UK is a fraction of the cost of Horizon, plus UK2000, plus Treescape. Cheers Paul Golding
February 20, 201313 yr Like Paul says about the season and that's also why I think photreal work for placers like Arizona where there are not really any seasons. The winter season in orbx UK is spot on I know I live here :( David Murden. February 20, 201313 yr The winter season in orbx UK is spot on I know I live here Me too ... and he last thing I want is MORE snow and misery - sunshine in FSX is fine for me! Cheers Keith ...
February 20, 201313 yr I mainly fly vfr in fsx , I am a real life pilot & only fly in vfr in the UK , I found orbx inaccuracy in some towns & villages a little disappointing + very un realistic roads & a lower grade of mesh , its good but like others have said it really is down to personal preference. I am currently flying fsx in orbx new Zealand south & I'm really enjoying exploring the south island.
Paul Sleight
February 20, 201313 yr Here is Barmouth from around 900 feet so you can see what a town looks like , I visit Barmouth a lot & I think it is spot on in the horizon scenery. Hope the link works I did this post on my phone.
Paul Sleight
February 20, 201313 yr I've tried both the Horizon VFR and ORBX England. I'm just coming to the end of my PPL so flying lots of navexes. I started using Horizon in FSX to practice my routes before I flew them and it's great for VRPs, towns and cities etc but not so great when you are looking for masts, windfarms, chimneys or tall buildings enroute. I installed ORBX England into P3D and was very pleasantly surprised to find that the majority of features on the CAA 1:50000 charts are modelled and accurately placed and haven't used FSX/Horizon since. True, the cities and towns aren't photorealistic but they are the right shape and in the right place and major landmarks in the bigger cities are included. I would say it depends on what you want to use it for. If you just want to fly and have 'England below you' then go with Horizon. If you are enroute and need to be looking for Wells TV mast, windfarms etc. in the positions your chart says they are, then I recommend you give ORBX a try.
February 20, 201313 yr If you search around the net a bit you can get a lot of objects which show over photo scenery , I have a lot of masts , most power stations , sub stations , pylons , wind farms .
Paul Sleight
February 21, 201313 yr Same here, Sleight. You don't need ORBx to be able to navigate by visual means. In fact, you can even use golf courses if you know them well enough! ES Treescapes is actually very useful for this, because many of the golf courses can be identified by the rows of trees that line fairways.
