February 19, 201313 yr Files thrown everywhere with all these addons; the main FSX directory looks especially ugly. Do you guys use an external install program watcher, or just leave it to the uninstall programs that come with your addons? Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
February 19, 201313 yr The main directory is a pain to look at, i grimace everytime i see it when i scroll towards the bottom. I'm sure some stuff does'nt need to be there but i don't want to risk deleting stuff i'm not sure about. I guess they must be there for a reason. Is yours like that? Kind Regards Simon.
February 19, 201313 yr I'm sure some stuff does'nt need to be there but i don't want to risk deleting stuff i'm not sure about. Same here. I normally add all scenery (OZx, etc) to the Add on folder, except for ORBX becasue that has its on control panel. February 19, 201313 yr I'm quite particular about keeping my files in order and i'm fairly satisfied with my folder files but further down lies all matter of things such as FX files, application ext files & uninstall files. Sorry Omni, to answer your original question, no i don't use anything to combat this but would appreciate a way that can tidy this part of my FSX install. Kind Regards Simon.
February 19, 201313 yr I wonder why you would want to keep that folder organized...? I never look at it... If I would visit that folder daily I might feel the need to organize it a little but for now I coudn't care less what's in there as long as everything works. ^_^ Mind you, I like things organized (you should see my MP3 folder!) but only if it has a purpose...
February 19, 201313 yr Commercial Member I don't keep it organized, I just install all the stuff to their default locations inside FSX folder. That's enough for me.

February 19, 201313 yr I install as little as possible, and almost never install anything that can't be manually installed. I keep a backup of my addon scenery folder which contains all my "approved addons" in five folders (to keep things that need to be layered in the right order in the scenery library). So if I need to reinstall FSX or P3D I have all my scenery up and running in a flash. As for aircraft I usually only fly a couple at the time so they don't make too much of a mess. February 19, 201313 yr Im pretty certain that other than looking nice there is no advantage to organizing these files. Just because it looks good on the program interface you are viewing doesn't mean that's how its organized on your hard drive - one file layed down beside the next one for fast reading. You might be better to defrag ( carefully and properly) your HD occasionaly or in the case of SSD's, leave it alone. Ron W
February 19, 201313 yr I don't care for how the main folder looks. I just try to have the addons and aricraft folders "clean", i.e. remove things I don't use. I did the same with the Appdata/.../FSX file, where I had like 20 backup files, mainly of the dll.xml, which I sorted and moved separate subfolder, so that it is easier to find the necessary file if something got messed up. February 19, 201313 yr Im pretty certain that other than looking nice there is no advantage to organizing these files. I'd say that having the files organized so you don't have to reinstall addons is a pretty big advantage. Even more so for those using Prepar3D. February 19, 201313 yr Under Addons, I do have my sceneries in separate "Country" folders to help with duplications, and to remind me of what I've got. In addition I have an Excel file with all sceneries recorded, versions and developer name. Ron W
