GTX 670 FTW and Jaggies

Featured Replies

Yeah, I know default runways do that, but nowhere near as bad as in flyingnoob's pic

If you enlarge his pic you can see really clearly what it looks like. What he is showing is exactly the effect I'm seeing but also mine is not THAT bad. In my case it sometimes is jagged and other times it's not. I notice it mainly when I'm sitting on the runway and looking towards the end, it's a bit jagged. However, when above it at around 50 ft or at a few miles away it looks crisp.

But if you say the default runway lines do that, I guess the fact that it happens is normal, although not as bad as flyingnoob is showing.

@Flyingnoob, could you please tell me the airport + gate you were on right there, I want to compare.

Thanks.

I believe those runway/taxiway lines are placed there by the sim with no mipmaps, so they tend to look jagged.

We're probably seeing the same thing then Arjen

8xS + 2xSGSS or 4xSGSS if I feel adventorous, or can anticipate CAVOK conditions

Dazz, what you show there is pretty close to what I see. I will make a screenshot of my NI settings. In the meantime could you please make a screenshot while sitting at the beginning of the runway and looking towards the end? Just that position when you load up and aircraft at the runway, if you know what I mean.

Here are my settings. Just seem like the "usual" settings to me, however if you have any suggestions please tell me. :)

I'm moving so my computer is in a box and will not be ready for any tests in the next few weeks, sorry

Hi Dazz, sorry my mistake, normally it is set to 8S, I tried another setting, but didn't change it back, although the 8S doesn't make any difference - even wit a NI/FSX even a pc restart.

I guess I can live with this, esp as my Vc, my spot view when off the ground is perfect - it is just one of them little annoyances, that I would prefer to iron out.

There is a difference between 8XQ and 8XSQ...

The two AA methods that are most recommended on the forums are 8XS and 8XSQ.

8XSQ is slightly "softer"..

Bert

Thanks bert,

Arjen,, how did you get on with your test?

Thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

I read somewhere that Nvidia did something with their AA mode, changed it to be better for performance, but less for image quality. I'm fighting the texture shimmering, no amount of SGSS and AA fixes it. It's annoying!!

hey go to your nvdia control panel and turn on the fxaa and set the AA to 8x

After reading this thread I am almost hesitant to get a 670 if there is a problem with AA on some FSX textures, although I dont fly to many default FSX airports, I dont want to have issues with 3rd party fields ground texture lines. I wish the pics were still visible so I could see exactly how it looks.
