What hardware are you going to use?

Featured Replies

I imagine a lot of us on AVSIM have bits of home cockpit hardware from the likes of CP, Opencockpits, Engravity etc (MCPs, FMCs, EFISs etc). I guess they are mostly for the 737s and 747s. How are you planning to fly the 777 around any existing hardware you use?

Not intending to spoil your thread; just still haven't figured out myself why I did this:

I bought a hardware MCP (Boeing type, of course, some 400 Euros) and, after a couple of weeks, I uninstalled it and went back to working my MCPs by mouse clicks.

Advantages:

- quick inputs by changing 10's of degrees of heading and 1.000's of feet of altitude

- and at the same time very precise changes, different from spinning those hardware knobs fast

- even the night lighting (backlit) was more enjoyable that way (on the screen rather than on the hardware MCP)

This leaves me (a bit confused about myself, though) with:

- a 2nd monitor to drag a number of pop-up panels to

- a (hardware) flight yoke

- rudder pedals

And that's pretty much it.

And just to add to that confusion: I stopped using TrackIR and went back to those "dinosaur type" 2d panels ...

Is there a cure for my disease?!?

I just acquired mcp combo panel from vrinsight and I hope someone will write a lua script for it to use in LINDA

Just a sidestick and rudder pedals, no room on the desk for a yoke.

Same, sidestick and (soon) rudder pedals.

Isn't the "sidestick" still called a joystick?!?

This is a Boeing thread, isn't it???

Both terms are correct, I use the term sidestick even when using it for non FS games since it remains to my side.

I've heard we get the 777 (M)CDU as a (2d) pop-up. Anyone knows, whether the lower ECAM will be available as a separate pop-up as well? (I'd like to have my ECLs visible all the time while working the other panels.)

I.e. French for MFD?

Cool. Are the buttons on the 737 CDU different to the 777 though?

Yes the face is different but I'm hoping the 737 style will be able to be programmed to work with the 777. I'm confident it can.

I'm going to use my full scale 777 cockpit that I'm building hopefully the pmdg bird will.be out by then because I'm using the cs 777 for testing and I'm about to lose my mind because of that plane
