How are new Boeings delivered to Europe?

Featured Replies

I've searched the web but found no concise answer.

How are small airliners that don't have the range for the atlantic crossing delivered to airlines in Europe? I've seen things such as they are fitted with extra tanks in the cargo bays and high density fuel is used, but surely these additions then modify the certification of the aircraft?

I also can't imagine them being semi assembled then shipped on a boat and assembly finished in europe though this could be the case.

Anyone shed some light on this?

That is very good question, I always wanted to know that myself. Like how do they get 737's all the way from Seattle to Hong Kong, and vice versa with the smaller airbuses, from Europe to points further east and to the west. Hopefully someone can "Kindly" explain that to us!

Thanks, O. Skinner

I'm no expert but you've got to realise that these aircraft won't have any passengers on and very little (if any) cargo, so the range is greatly increased making a crossing possible. I know that some Ryanair aircraft do a direct flight from KBFI to Dublin sometimes. They can always stop for fuel on the way if needs be...

Same way they get a C172 across the Atlantic... Via Greenland/Iceland/Scotland etc etc.

Watch History Channels Extreme pilots. They deliver/fly single engine aircraft all over the world.

All valid comments. I had not thought of the prospect of refuelling in greenland or iceland...

Extra fuel tanks.

All of Boeing's aircraft can make the flight over oceans without any special mods. If they are going across the Pacific then it is either via Hawaii or Anchorage. Even smaller GA aircraft do the flight non-stop but they do have to use ferry tanks.

We get a steady stream of Boeings here (PHNL) from KBFI then on to Majuro (PKMJ) for the most part.  Over past week China Southern, Shadong, Air China, and Royal Jet BBJ 737s have passed through.

I think Seattle-Tacoma/Nova Scotia/Iceland and Europe.

The question is not easy
