September 29, 200421 yr When the FS9 patch is released (my guess is Saturday) I expect we'll see a number of posts saying how fantastic/great/nice/average/poor it is on each persons system. In order to reduce the potential number of new threads, is it possible to create some sort of "Patch" sub forum so that messages can be more easily read?
September 30, 200421 yr Another request: When the patch is released, don't post things like "I'm downloading it now and will install it later today" :-lol -
September 30, 200421 yr I reckon there will be a million, "how come my P3 1Ghz can't run at 30fps with full detail, I though this patch was supposed to improve performance, I can't believe Microsoft would release such a poor patch" etc etc.Dan.
September 30, 200421 yr I think people are getting over-excited about this patch. I think they are expecting a lot more than it is going to deliver. For example they mention "enhanced framerates", but that specifically mentions "flying in and out of a common area". My guess is this means a fix to the "autogen bug". Most of us here have already applied a workaround to deal with that problem, so many of us may not see any performance gains from it at all. Same with the crash to desktop stability problems. Again most of us have already applied the various workarounds to them. Now I don't want to seem negative about the patch, far from it. The bridge fix is nice, and hopefully the patch will fix these problems in a way better than the existing work-arounds. I just think people are reading a lot more into it than is actually there. http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...esg_id=38&page= ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
September 30, 200421 yr "Most of us here have already applied a workaround to deal with that problem, so many of us may not see any performance gains from it at all."True. However, the other day I re-enabled all the autogen features and was surprised by the increased variety of the autogen scenery, especially when flying at very low altitudes. Silos, streetlights, telephone lines, farms, barns, powerstations...it looked much more realistic than it did with only the standard FS2002-style "block" houses enabled. Being able to fly with full autogen enabled at Extremely Dense will be a huge improvement for a Light/Ultralight fanatic like myself :) -
September 30, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi Craig, You forget that's avsim, simflight and flightsim.com are the extremly limited thin minority of the total Msfs sale, million users do not know about any thing here, Ms release always a world wide patch to many language of the world and not only to 3 web site. All "works around" do not fix problems but remove feature eithers remove autogen + remove season airports texture transition, do not fix the fs2004 stability misc not related to season, either do not fix mesh elevation, bridge + misc add.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
September 30, 200421 yr My FS9 is so unstable now.. I can hardly use it.It needs a freaking patch or something...to get it running. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
September 30, 200421 yr Until Saturday, perhaps we might occupy our time more productively if we came up with a list of workarounds that need to be undone and how to undo them. For example:- how to reenable extended autogen (which we disabled to prevent memory leak)- how to reenable seasonal transitions (which we disabled to prevent seasonal CTD)
September 30, 200421 yr weird. It's so stable here I can hardly stop running it :)And that's the case with the vast majority of users suggesting there may be something with your system that's not right.Don't automatically blame Microsoft for your problems, look to yourself first.

I am not saying the patch is unneccessary. Far from it! I just want people to have realistic expectations. This idea of "increased framerates" keeps circulating around, and people need to realize that this is actually another specific bug fix. (a real autogen fix and bridges will be nice!). ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
September 30, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi"weird. It's so stable here I can hardly stop running it"It's been also stable for my, no problems for me, but this is not means fs2004 do not have peformance or stability issue on others situation and specific situationtime.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis

Any more than the actual patch being released on Saturday, which could well turn out to be the product of a feverish imagination. It will be here when it's here. That's all.Allcott
