Avsim front page news and star-ratings?

Featured Replies

I've noticed a lot of news items on the front-page gets a 1-star rating. Is this because no one has rated the article yet, or because people actually go in and give them 1-star ratings? It creates a bit of a negative atmosphere when half the news items have a 1-star rating.

If unrated articles get a 1-star rating automatically, it should be changed to a "no-star" (all grey) rating by default.

If it's actually caused by people giving them a 1-star rating, I think the system needs to be changed in some way, like making comments mandatory. Then it would take more effort to give articles a rating, so people would actually think it through before rating. A counter that shows how many have rated the item would also help - if 1 person has given it a 1 star rating, it doesn't mean much, but if something has 500 1-star votes, it's probably time to watch out...

I agree... gives a rather negative image...

I think it's one person angry with AVSIM for whatever reason. (Dam chiropractors!) I agree it does give the articles on the site a slightly negative appearance at a glance, but I think if a person is interested in a article they'll read it regardless.

I believe what it has boiled down to is we won't adjust policy over one sour grape.  Eventually they'll realize there's more to life than anger and holding a grudge.

It'd be good if you could not show ratings on articles until a certain, N, number of ratings were received.

As you can all see we have removed the star ratings all together.  No more of that juvenile behavior
