FS9 update available now..

Featured Replies

Directly from MS's patch instructions:---------------Note: This FS9.EXE will require a CD in the drive for Flight Simulator to run. If any action (such as re-installing a modified FS9.exe via a 3rd party add-on software installation) causes an overwrite of the updated FS9.EXE, you will lose significant fixes included in the Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight (update).---------------Here's the link to the page with the above quote:http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimul...9.1_english.aspSo if you put your "NO CD" fs9.exe back, and you have problems, you may want to try reverting to the new fs9.exe.Rowland

Ok, here's an early performance report. I spent about an hour and a half putting it throught it's paces on a strictly performance basis. First off I have seen no bad effects. The only addons I have are aircraft. I am using a clean install, scenery wise. Here's the biggest thing that I noticed. I restored the autogen default.xml and I am getting the same frames as I was getting with the little barns and powerstaions disabled! No more jitters with the extra autogen enabled. Second. Textures seem to load quicker. I never once saw the "blank texture" problem when textures are loading. I am maxed on settings with the exception of 75% terrain mesh and no anti aliasing. All other sliders are maxed out. I have frames locked at 24fps and that doesn't budge with clear weather anywhere. The scenery density doesn't matter. Flying over New York City with heavy clouds, I was getting 18-20 fps, but it would dip to 12-15 if I was panning around. Clouds still take the framerates south but not as much now..I guess because of the autogen fix. My recomendation is that I don't think the patch will do you any harm. When you have the time, do a fresh install of FS and then reload all of those add-ons. If you have no problems with FS now, then don't install it. I personally like seeing the little cows go by underneath. Now I can see them with no framerate hit. Yippeee! Well, that's my take on it. >I didn't install the patch yet but you should be able to>still use the fs9.exe nocd currently since it is just a small>loader. All the modules of the sim are separate so it SHOULD>work fine.FS9.EXE is not "just a small loader." Some changes are in FS9.EXE, so overwriting the NEW one with the no-CD executable is like putting a flat tire back on your car. You've just defeated some of the critical changes that were made.

Guys I still can't DL the file from the MS site - I'm getting terrible k/sec on the DL and it's stopping about 6MB into the file every time and acting like it's finished. Can someone host the file or send it to me over AIM (SN is "TabsAZ")?Thanks,

I just installed the patch and Active Camera works fine without any update. I had moved the NOCD file to another folder and renamed the original fs9.exe back to normal before installing. Only hangup was with the weather.DLL that I must have modified. I had the original backed up as weather.dll.org and did the switch, installed the patch and make a flight with Radar Contact from KRNO to KSFO. No problems encountered.Best, Rob

I installed the patch on a fresh installation of FS9 (I had a new hard drive and took the opportunity to start fresh with a new Windows XP installation -- is there anything better than a nice, clean OS?).Patch worked flawlessly, as can be expected. But the best news for me is that a recurring problem when flying around Seattle is now fixed. I used to have a sudden pause when flying South of KSEA. On my old Radeon 9500Pro, it was just about a second long. On my new Geforce 6800GT, it was actually several seconds long. With this patch, the pause is completely gone ... perhaps it was an issue related to the autogen bug.I haven't flown FS9 for a little bit, and I was reminded tonight about what an incredible program it is. With my recent computer upgrades, flying at a locked 35fps at 1600x1200 and 4xFSAA/8xAF is just fantastic. I think Microsoft should just go ahead and wait an additional year for FS10, and let us enjoy this one for a while longer now that hardware is finally catching up to its potential.

Hi all, :) Thought i'd share my "experiences" of the patch with you guys. The first time I installed the patch was with some addons installed with FS9, the patch ran fine but i ended up with an error related to the "SIM1.dll" I then unistalled the patch using the option in the FS9 directory. Then after a reinstall of the patch, the FS splash screen would show... then nothing, the fs9 process would just end... So after a clean re-install of FS9 i applied the patch and now all is good. :) All thats left is to check out the improvements i suppose... :D

Thx for the links, I downloaded at 1200KB/s and took less than 20s. LOL.The patch works flawlessly so far. I am still testing FS9 if the patch really gives any noticeable improvement. Stuttering seems a bit less and clouds looks a bit better... haha, maybe just mental improvement....Anyway it's a pity that the beautiful Ting Kau Bridge in Hong Kong near CLK is still missing, though the Ching Ma Bridge is already there since FS8:http://www.structurae.net/en/structures/da...00078/index.cfm

What great addon scenery of Boston?Thomas

I've just installed it, but before I did I upgrade my ActiveCamera and FSUIPC - following the instructions. After some trouble with gps_export.dll module, I eventually got it installed, but it was randomly crashing to the desktop (always within the first 5 or 6 seconds of starting the sim). Even when just starting with the default flight as seattle.Like I said I've tried upgrading both FSUIPC and AC.Anyway - I got it working by uninstalling AC all together. I found this error in the Applications event log on my PC (which points to AC as being the problem):Event Type: ErrorEvent Source: Microsoft Flight Simulator 9.0Event Category: NoneEvent ID: 1000Date: 09/10/2004Time: 14:08:37User: N/AComputer: GARYDescription:The description for Event ID ( 1000 ) in Source ( Microsoft Flight Simulator 9.0 ) cannot be found.
