Can't Install Patch

Featured Replies

Patch won't install for me. I get an "Update Error Type: 9" error message. Any help out there?Jim

Won't install for me either. It goes as far as MODULESPANELS.DLL and then aborts, saying only that the update was not installed successfully.

I get the same PANELS.DLL error. I'm going to try and grab the dll off the disc and replace it, hoping it doesn't 'downgrade' any of my add-ons as I'm not sure which one it could have been that modified the dll.

I just went and dropped in the Panels.dll from the CD and the patch installation went ahead and completed. I noticed two things: The file I had in my modules folder was named PANELS.DLL and the file off the CD was Panels.dll. So, perhaps the installer is case-sensitive? Secondly, the file I had in my modules folder was exactly 3 hours older, or newer, can't remember, than the file pulled off the CD. I'm sure this is due to time zones and shouldn't matter. But, replacing that file with the one off the CD cured the problem with the installer hanging at the PANELS.DLL file and then aborting. You can find it on Disk 2, inside MSGAME3.CAB. Now it's off to test this thing.

Panels.dll is on disc 2 in the MSGAME3.CAB, my installation got hung up at the same spot. Restored the original file and so far no problems. I think many of the problem files are from FS2002 aircraft brought over into FS2004... could be wrong but the date on both the gps_export.dll and panel.dll were older than the originals.ZaneDan, you posted while I was typing... oh well, now you heard it from two sources

I just did a binary diff of the PANELS.DLL in my Modules folder with the one out of MSGAME3.CAB, and while they share a common timestamp, they are different. Something "patched" PANELS.DLL previously - but what (PMDG?). Other possible candidates may include the PSS Airbus, Eaglesoft's Citation X, or the DF PA28 or C177. Do you own any of these? It could also be some voodoo with ActiveCamera.JPS. FWIW, I was able to install the patch after replacing PANELS.DLL in the manner you describe. The differences between these files, however, make me uneasy.

I had the same problem with the panels.dll, and I own both the PMDG and PSS aircraft, so maybe it is one of these.- Martin

"We don't touch any of the FS files either."The same with Active Camera

When I was doing the update it stopped at Weather.dll, so I replaced all .dll's in the modules folder with the originals. Then the update worked. Curiously, there was a day's difference between /Modules dll's and the ones on the CD!?Regards,Jurehttp://www.globecargo.org/images/VAA_Captain.jpg

Hi Jure, -Be sure your fs2004module *.dll after the patch 9.1 install are dated from 1092004 with the update 9.1 installed-The fs9.exe should be 1092004, build 9.1.0.40901 (1.32MB)The reason to restore the original *.dll before installing the patch, is there may some corrupted *.dll from your fs2004 module folder and the patch dit not liked.Ps: The original fs2004 9.0 *.dll file are dated to 12062003ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs

If you get the error message and the update doesnt start at all, double check that you in fact downloaded the full 27MB file. I discovered the download was being dropped and although the update icon appeared on my desktop it was only 9MB and that error message would appear. The server seems busy and not able to complete the download. It took me five attempts to get the full27MB. Good thing I have DSL, and even then it would start at 300+KB/sec and drop all the way to 20 or less at timesBill
