AI Aircraft SID and STAR Controller

Featured Replies

Hi Roland,

first of all, thank you very much for this tool !! I ever dreamed about this kind of utility and now its reality :-) .

I am running it for the first time and so far, its working fine. There is only one thing i am wondering about...

I stay at EDDS and the wind comes from 230 degrees, so active runway is 25. But aircrafts also landing on 07 !!!???? Does anyone else have this spottet ?! Its not only in EDDS, also on other airports. Looks like FSX ai engine have a problem ?!

I am running networked via simconnect without problems ...

Yup, also getting a 'util.dll' crash. I'm running networked with UT2 compatibility on and also the telemetry option on. Haven't had a chance to try and troubleshoot the error but if I do get a chance I will report back.

Fixed UT2 compatibility for Rev. N, should be available in a few days.  The telemetry output bug is also fixed.  The holding and minimum separation is working better as well based on an idea someone gave me in this thread to more directly tap into my sorted, AI distance table (was that you?).

Furthermore, AISIDSTAR crashed once, but I guess this was due to me scrolling around in the window and AISIDSTAR monitoring basically every airport within 200nm.

For some reason bringing up a second overlaid window in FSX to view specific AI aircraft or for a top-down map view sometimes causes AISIDSTAR to act strangely (e.g., speeding up AI to warp speed).  Usually isn't a problem if done briefly, but something to keep in mind.

Would it be possible to allow the importation of SIDS and STARS from flightplans created with a 3rd party programs like FSBuild or FSC. I only fly Australian skies, and at the moment I can't work out how to adapt this program for my use.

Does this video help?  http://www.mediafire.com/watch/mj3hgm33w24thcv/AISIDSTAR_Video_1_Sample_SID_STAR_Files_and_Creating_New_Ones_Using_AIConv.mp4   Monitoring the appropriate airports by reading flight plans is something I'm definitely looking at for a major revision based on feedback from multiple users.

Small turboprops (Do228, TwOtter) tend to go warp 7 after takeoff. Is that intended?

Thanks, I've added a separate speed parameter for turbo-props in Rev. N, it should be available shortly.

Yes, that sometimes happens to me too and it is irritating.  My program however doesn't affect what landing/takeoff runways FSX assigns to the AI, it just reads the assignment data.

My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days

Hi Roland,

i am not able to post images. Nevertheless i got an error on Aisidstar12m which i will write down :

AISISDSTAR  has encountered an error, please note the following error information.

***** EXCEPTION = 3 SendID = 40203 Index = 1cbData = 24

The SendID is going till 40207 ....

Any Idea what this could be ?

That's a general error and usually not a problem.  FSX deletes an AI (e.g., AI leaves the reality bubble) and my program's arrays briefly get out of sync and tell FSX to do something with that AI (turn left to heading 320).  The arrays quickly get back into sync however and will stop sending data to the deleted AI, but not before that error pops up.  Please ignore it.  I'm repressing that particular error in the next version.

Hi Roland,

thanx for your detailed answer ! I thought it could be something like that.

Another topic for me is, that I have on ground and in air multiple reloads of the scenery, objects and traffic.

I dont know the technology of the AI engine, nor other influence which will force a reload. Can you tell me a reason for that ?! I never had this in FS9.

Rev. 1.2N (beta) can be found here:

New: Custom waypoint holding.  User can designate a particular waypoint or waypoints in a STAR as custom holding waypoints.  The user can also specify the holding altitude and turn direction.  Thus, the holding waypoints can be made to conform to published procedures.  Also added a new standard holding mode (AIHoldingAllowed = 4) that allows AI to hold at any waypoint in a STAR (if necessary) not just the first and last.

New:  Occasionally, FSX is late assigning the AI a landing runway after the AI exits the last STAR waypoint.  As a result, the AI meanders about the terminal area possibly encroaching into landing and departing zones. The program avoids this by commanding the AI to circle the field at stacked holding altitudes in an orderly fashion until a runway is assigned.  This protection can be turned off.

New:  Added code to detect off-angle AI approaches.  After being assigned a runway and released by AISDISTAR, the AI will occasionally fly to the approach fix of an assigned runway at an odd-angle or extreme height increasing chances that the AI will not be able to hit the runway (missed approach) or encumber the approach lanes by excessive "hunting" for the final approach.   The program detects such a condition and vectors the "confused" AI out of the area in an orderly fashion via a SID.  This protection can also be turned off.

New:  Different speed for jets and turbo-props (default and user-configurable).

New:  STAR selection optionally based on the AI's bearing to the airport.  E.g., aircraft arriving at bearings 0 to 90 degrees to the airport (i.e., from the south west) cause AISIDSTAR to select a STAR designated as such (bearingrange parameter).  STAR selection by bearing also take into account landing runways in use.

New:  Pausing (unpausing) FSX will now pause (unpause) AISIDSTAR.   Before this new feature was added, pausing FSX caused calibration problems in AISIDSTAR resulting in uncommanded AI velocity changes.

New:  Various new optional parameters that can be added to the AISIDSTAR.ini file.  Please see help file.

Revised: Improved pattern distance calculations for better minimum spacing/holds/release from holds (if enabled).

Revised: Decreased temporary speed variations when AI released from control of AISIDSTAR.

Revised: Improved STAR exit waypoint holding mode.

Fixed: UT2 compatibility (if enabled).  To enable, (1) set UT2Compatibility=1, (2) set AImaxspawndistancefromstar=70 (approx), and (3) provide a full FSX path to your folder where the FSX flight plans are stored, e.g., MyFSXDocumentsPath=C:\Users\My Name\My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files.  For network users, a network (UNC) path may be specified to a shared folder with write access.

Fixed:  Telemetry option for external program interface no longer causes AISIDSTAR  to crash.  Also revised to include additional telemetry data.

Revised:  AIConv.exe will no longer pause with "airport data not found warnings" when used with wildcards.

Please consult the following video documentation (Note: for Rev. M, but still mostly applicable to the latest revision).

Thanks!

Hi Roland,

Did you manage to solve the problems of using this option without using a network? Just checking.

Thanks for your continuous support.

Yes, you can now use the UT2 option without using a network.  Thanks for asking about that, it wasn't clear.

AISIDSTAR and UT2 work together well now.  UT2 funnels the AI into jet routes and AISIDSTAR funnels "the funneled" AI into STARs (and vice versa regarding SID to jet route transitions).  I can see the result on the navigation display of my aircraft, where I notice "lines" of AI during all phases of the flight (sometimes my aircraft is in the "line" too which is cool).  Let me know how it works out for you.

Hi Roland,

Excellent update. I left it running with UT2 mode on (not networked) for about 4 hours last night and the approaches into EGLL were very impressive, very few go arounds. Departures working well also.

Andy

Roland,

The updated AIconv.exe still returns the 'airport data not found' error, prompting a user response before continuing. I've set it up with the wildcard so that the utility will read the entire .\SIDSTARS\*.* directory. I've attached the screen shots of the setup and error just incase it is myself that has missed something!

Regards

EDIT: I persevered and let the program run. It seems to only not work with some airports! The first few (like the one in the screenshot). Now running without much of a problem. Only seems to stop at an airport every now and again.

Thanks for letting me know, probably something simple I overlooked.  Ping me at my support email address and I'll send you a custom fix.  If it works, I'll probably incorporate it directly into the final version rather than releasing another beta (I'm hoping to make 1.2N that last beta).

Good to hear, thanks!  Are you using AImaxspawndistancefromstar=70?  Just curious.

Clipper, I have only just discovered this thread, and it looks excellent, I have been searching a long time for an improvement over AI Smooth. Many thanks for this great work,

Downloading videos to learn how to use this!

Works VERY WELL!.

This is fun, and lets hope it evolves to even more.

Good job Roland.

I would appreciate some advice - this program looks really good, but I must be doing something wrong - I selected the 'all airports' .ini file and copied it into the root AISidStar folder.

I set AI separation at 5nm, UT2 set to 1, and Maxspawningdistance set to 50 as per instructions.

But when I watch the aircraft departures from top down (KLAX), every plane suddenly moves very rapidly once it clears the end of the runway (slews?). Is this correct behaviour? Is there a parameter I can change to stop this happening?

Sorry if it's a dumb question, I have read the pdf and watched all the videos but cannot resolve this,

Keith
