FlightBeam Studios - KIAD Washington Released

Recommended Posts

Downloading the trial now.  Bought their PHX and SFO when they came out.  I don't normally fly into this area but I might get it anyway to support them...  more we support them the more airports will come out.

I'm HOPING someday that they (or FSDT/FT) will do KMSP Minneapolis.

Well this is my 3rd vendor of this airport, the other two vendors, the airport looked dead.

It's my favourite airport in the US because it's the 1st one I flew into the US for real.(as a passenger).

3rd time lucky.

What can I say but BRRRIIIIIILLLLLLIIIIAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNTTTTTTTTTT

My older KIAD products from other vendors just went POOF and vanished!

This looks amazing!  FlightBeam is definitely a clone of FSDT.  KIAD is about 11 miles from my house.

Time to fly!

I got the trial, anyone know why I've got default taxiways and duplicate stock towers in the scenery?

Ryan, make sure to remove any third party AFCADs, such as the popular Ray Smith AFCAD from the AVSIM library. It will make KIAD show double.

Try searching in this location to see if you find any "KIAD***.bgl" files:

Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery/scenery
Flight Simulator X/Scenery/Global/scenery

Thanks that fixed it!  Is it safe to assume that if I have other payware and I am seeing duplicate towers/objects I can safely delete entries in those above folders with the same name in them?  I guess what I'm asking does other payware airports put scenery into it's own folder and all files reside in said folder?  I do have a lot of Ray Smith adex entries after checking those folders.

Usually all commercial scenery will reside in their respective folders, but be careful with this folder:

Flight Simulator X/Scenery/Global/scenery

Sometimes there will be an additional file in here that relates to the airport altitude, it's important not to touch those IF they're from the scenery developer. As an example, both KPHX and KSFO have a file in there named "KSFO_alt.bgl" , "KPHX_alt.bgl"

Great thanks...  I did find some other files related to my FSDT airports (which I've always had dual towers) and now they are gone!  Excellent.

FPS are pretty good... in line with my other payware airports.  IAD might be a tad heavier on performance than FSDT's JFKv2.1 (DX9).

This is another impressive and immersive add-on airport by Flightbeam.

A pilot is always learning and I LOVE to learn.

I too am very impressed with Flightbeam and the 'other' KIAD scenery I had installed is now in the uninstalled pile.

Will it have AES support?

Just bought, downloaded, installed and finished a helicopter tour.  Really impressive.  Terminal buildings, textures, surrounding areas all beautifully done.

The only small letdown for me was the look of the main terminal building.  The Imaginesim KIAD is inferior in every other respect, but it does capture the compound curves of Eero Saarinen's roof.  The Flightbeam building looks like the facade shape was stuck onto a rectangle - sort of like an awning on a generic building.  Maybe that's something that could get a second look in an update.  It can't be easy to design a sim version of something like that, but it's such a distinctive building that a closer match would really put a signature on what's otherwise a masterpiece.

Overall, congratulations to Flightbeam - well done.

EDIT: You know, I'm wondering if maybe I'm having a problem with my installation.  The version of the terminal in the screenshots on Flightbeam's website looks exactly right.  Maybe it's not rendering correctly on my system.  I'd better go back and have another look.  Don't draw any conclusions yet based on my report.

EDIT 2: Yep, looks like the Flightbeam terminal building is jammed inside a default building.  I've uninstalled and am now re-downloading.  Will see what happens this time.
