Adding to a file

Featured Replies

I just purchased the PMDG 737. In the manual as part of the tweaks, they suggested that I go to C:\Users\Username\appdata\roaming\Microsoft\FSX. I tried that and couldn't find it. If I were to find it , they wanted me to enter under Graphics>HIGHMEMFIX=1        In Display> wide screen running16:9 res > WideViewAspect=True            Can someone please direct me to these locations? Thanks

You need the: Show Hidden Files and Folders option turned On in Windows.

The first thing I did was the show files and folder thing. I'm lost in how to do it.

Never can understand why everyone has to go through hell with the stupid hidden files & folders thing, if Windows would just install with those options enabled it would certainly save everyone a lot of headaches. This trick works though, and to me is a lot easier than chasing around in folder options, etc. Open a windows explorer window (It's in Programs > Accessories if you haven't figured that out already), paste the line below into the address bar and press "Enter":

notepad %appdata%\Microsoft\FSX\fsx.CFG

That'll open your fsx.cfg in Notepad where you can make the needed edits and it doesn't matter if you have hidden files turned on or not. You'll see the headings you're looking for in brackets, i.e. [Graphics] and [Display]. Just add what you need on a new line below those headers so it looks like this:

[GRAPHICS]
HIGHMEMFIX=1

and

[Display]
WideViewAspect=True

Note that there will be some other lines under each of those headings, leave them intact and just add your line to the group (if it's not there already). Click "File > Save" and "X out". You should be good to go.

It's not on your C:\ drive perse. On my comp it is my E:\ drive.

It should be your drive at where your Windows is located.

Maybe you Windows language is not English and instead of the folder name "Users" in C:\Users\Username\appdata\roaming\Microsoft\FSX

the folder has a different name in your local language.

Also be sure that you replace the folder name 'Username" with your Windows username OR maybe it's \All users\

On my comp it is this folder where the file is located, maybe it helps:

E:\Users\Mark\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX

Edit: Oh, Jim beat me to it. Do what he says, and you will get there.

Still no luck. Everything that is FSX related is on my my WD external hard drive (j-Drive) if that makes a difference. I've run it in the search and run box. There is nothing that seems to stand out and tell me that I am in the right place. If I can't find the place where I should go, can I make my own file?

Hi  there this  should be  a simple  thing  to find.

1 Have  you enabled  show  folders   and  files is the first thing you need  to do since  you havnt  answered  that you have, since in your  other post you said  you don't  know how  to?

2  Don't know  what you mean by making  your own file?

3   looks like  no one has  said  how  to enable  folders,  go to your  control panel/ select folder option/  then select  the view  option on top/   than ensure  the  box is  checked  against  show  hidden folders

4  Once you have done  this   you should be able  to  use the above methods  to fiind  your  fsx.cfg

5  if  not   go to  your  main drive  scroll  down to you find  user/  click on the folder  that's  got your  name  eg  mine  is  called peter  click on this/click the appdata  folder/click the  roaming  folder/click Microsoft/ click fsx/   than look down to you  find  fsx.cfg   than open it  up  using note pad  and make  any  changes  than save the changes  when you   close it

6   before  you make  changes  good idea is  to make  up a back up copy of  your  fsx.cfg   than place it in a safe place

Hope you get it  sorted

In your opening post you refer to the file as 'fsx.'. Please be sure you are looking for fsx.CFG

You shouldn't make it yourself, because you already have it. Because if you don't, FSX will make a new one once you start it up.

Can you at least find the location C:\ or other drive letter, and then '\Users\<your Windows-username>\Appdata ?

The Appdata folder is hidden by default, so be sure to follow the instructions given by Pete above my post.

You already have the file, so you could also go to Windows Explorer and search for the file fsx.cfg.

Because people would modify or delete those files and then complain their pc had stopped working.

Can you cite a situation where that has happened or is that just speculation on your part?

How you never inadvertently deleted a file?

Can't say that I've ever inadvertantly deleted anything that would have been protected by "hidden files & folders", I have intentionally deleted a few though.

Do you have "show hidden files and folders" enabled BTW?
