How do I get rid of GSX?

Featured Replies

I don't use GSX and I have no interest in it

But when I load FSX (it takes a while) and then I get this annoying green display line saying "its generating airport cache...please wait" Why does it have to do that every time? .. and then my screen keeps blinking for what looks like eternity.. before  I can fly. I hate that it does that. If it was doing it in the background quiety it wouldn't matter to me... As it is, FSX takes time to load..and I cannot give this virus like thing another 3 or 5 or 10 minutes to spare.

I thought I, uninstalled GSX and deleted the GSX.dll or GSX.exe from the xml files..But for some reason like Poltergeist  it keeps coming back like a virus.

Any ideas.

PS: It may not be doing uit everytime I load FSX... This time..it didn't come up. Hmmmm....

I use GSX and it only regenerates cache when I have changed an airport using ADE/AFX or when I have customised a parking space using GSX. It is a housekeeping task that has to be done. I do agree that as more parking spaces are customised the cache regeneration takes a little longer.

When cache management becomes intolerable is down to each user. There is an easy way out, stop modifying airports and parking spots.

I have been using GSX for quite a while now and cannot remember having seen what you mention, the last time was this afternoon loading a flight out of LEMD... Are you sure your installation is correct, did you go to the FSDT forum to get help from the right people? FYI I have also done quite a number of customising with GSX.

The normal uninstall should take care of it.

If not then check fsx.exe, exe.xml and dll.xml and remove, or comment out any entries where gsx or couatl.exe is mentioned.

Caution:  Do this only if you are not using any FSDT airports, because couatl.exe is required for those.

I am using allmost all of FSDT Airports...so I need COUTL. Its just that I don't need the GSX thingi.

I did install and airport..maybe thats why it tried to regenerate the index..

IF it does that only when I add an airport then that is totally acceptable.

I just didn't want it re indexing every time I load FSX which I am now thinking is not happening.

Thanks guys. Appreciate it..

It does it anytime you make a change to airports in the Scenery Library. When i switch to or from an OrbX to my other add-on stuff, it need regenerating the airport cache.

I have never uninstalled it myself. Maybe a specific part is also used by some FSDT airports? So if you have one active, it starts an internal GSX module or something (I don't really think this is the case, but it would explain it)

It will do this any time something in the scenery library changes. I fly with a lot of photo real scenery areas and shut off various regions based on the route I'm flying. So, nearly every flight I do I have to wait for GSX to do it's indexing. It's a pain but I guess unfortunately a necessary thing.

I wish they would have a way to shut off indexing though for situations like mine. Nothing really changes. It's not like I get new scenery. I just enable/disable scenery. So, it's too bad it can't either automatically detect when something that is actually newly installed or make it a manual option so that I can re-index when I know something change much like what radar contact 4 does.

The flashing you are describing is because you have ENB series installed. Thats not GSX's fault...
