July 11, 201312 yr had to do an image restore of my C drive. Yes, you probably restored the original .fx file. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! July 12, 201312 yr I used the fix in op but it gave me black sky whenever I looked up, so I ended up abandoning it. Danny F
July 12, 201312 yr Worked just fine for me, and i applied this fix to 3 other systems without problems. I also advised some people here on forums about this fix, and worked well for them too. So, maybe fix is not applied correctly? There is a description for Windows XP... Maybe this can be a problem for some people, to find right folders on Windows7? Zeljko Budovic
July 13, 201312 yr Author Just to update you fellas, I did a full Windows 7 reinstall and put FSX on its own SSD and still get flashing clouds. After all of this I am suspecting it has something to do with graphics card (GTX 480) I'm gonna get some contact cleaner and get rid of all the dust that may be short circuiting a component on the graphics card. I really don't know what else the problem could be if a full OS reinstall and fresh FSX installation couldn't cure the problem. Will update soon...
July 14, 201312 yr Does anyone know if this Swarmcloud.fx fix also works for DX10? Because in my shaders folder I only see a swarmcloud40xxxxxxxxxxxxx shader file being created. And in the swarmmcloud40.fx file in the FSX main directory, the line 'NewMaterialUsage' isn't present so you can't set it to 'false'. Mark
July 14, 201312 yr Author A FSX re-install will un-do the fix and it will have to be reinstalled. Dave I don't know how many times I have reinstalled FSX. This is probably the 5th time I have tried to get rid of flashing clouds by attempting a reinstall of fsx and then applying the cloud flashing fix. After cleaning the graphics card I am still experiencing the same problems (mind you no add-ons installed) I wish I could just ignore it, but its just too obvious. This is wasting so much of my time- I don't know why all of the sudden FSX has been acting up like this. Long ago I applied the fix and I was really enjoying fsx with no flashing clouds but now its such a distraction to see. I am really suspecting that even after cleaning the graphics card it is probably the culprit. Is there a way where I can check for faults in the graphics card? As always, your input is always valued.
July 14, 201312 yr Maybe try the Shader3.0 mod by Bojote? http://forum.avsim.net/topic/283701-bojotes-shader-30-mod-for-fsx/ I don´t understand you still have this problem, even after the fix, I don´t have it. You did the procedure correctly as outlined??
