Active sky 2004.5 has a MASSIVE memory leak!!!!!

Featured Replies

I just found out what program is sucking all my memory, and crashing FS9 after only 20 minutes of flight---Active Sky! Great...a program I paid for and can't run as it is.I would suggest that the developer check out his coding.I have 1 GB of RAM, and I get the BONG--out of memory ONLY after running this program. If I do not run it with FS9---I have no problems with FS9. It does not crash (out-of-memory) at all.Wonderful....Does anybody have any suggestions?Mitch R.System:Pentium 4 3.4 gig.Memory: 1 GBVideo Card: Radeon X800XTHard Drive: 250 Gig Western DigitalXP PRo.

Sorry to hear about your problems, but I use as2004.5 all the time and have never had a problem with it. I would try posting in their forum they have good support. keith:-beerchug

I'm sure that you checked the memory usage per process to find this. How was AS2004.5 consuming memory? Over here and during testing I got as base mem 34M and as Peak 35.8M this agreed with after release. This was measured with Spy++. The task manager reported 34M.Jos

Mitch,I would suggest its maybe limited to your system, as I would guess that there are hundreds (thousands?) of people, like myself, that have ran AS2004.5 for a long time without such problems.Dan.

I have AS and don't have any problems.Victor

Same here, AS2004 runs all the time -sometimes over 4 hours- without causing any hangup. Indeed, ask for support on their forum at Avsim.

I think I found what causes the leak---if I use the DEFAULT settings, I can fly without incident, BUT, if I use the EXTEND THUNDERSTORM LAYERS (click it on) I get the memory leak.I'm playing with the OPTION checks and seeing what happens after each is activated.Mitch R.

Dan, I think that I traced it to the EXTEND THUNDERSTORMS LAYER switch. If I click the USE DEFAULT, I don't get the memory leak.Interesting.....I'm checking now combinations of the OPTIONS switches....Mitch R.

Had to uninstall AS. It sucks my system resources dead in 20 minutes.Totally bummed out.Mitch R.

Sorry to hear it Mitch. But after using the new AS myself on about 4-5 flights all around the 2 hour or so range, I have not noticed this problem. I also had the Extend thunderstorm layer switch checked. Although I was thinking of unchecking it since as mentioned in the revisions text it causes rain to appear outside of the thunderstorm.

Can you get a refund?

I don't find any mem leak problems on my system either Mitch. :-hmmm
