October 26, 200421 yr Hi all I have decided I would like to try some GA flying for a while after really just flying the heavy iron ever since I got FS9, with this in mind I want some recommendations for u GA fans as to what is a really great GA plane -payware or freeware does not matter . i am looking first and formost for great flight dynamics and then a great panel with SMOOTH gauge movement not the jerkiness that seems prevalent in most aircraft i have tried. thnaks for all your recommendations!!
October 26, 200421 yr For GA jets I love the Eaglesoft Citations. For GA props the Flight 1 Piper Meridian is one of the smoothest planes out there.I like the Carenado Centurion as well for a slower single - Smooth and simple plane. There are more out there than that. A lot to choose from in the GA arena.Josh

If you want to try a nice free I'd say the Maule. Better than many paywares. If you want something different (and still free) try the Staggerwings just uploaded to the library.>i am looking first and formost for>great flight dynamics and then a great panel with SMOOTH >gauge movement not the jerkiness that seems prevalent in most>aircraft i have tried. thnaks for all your recommendations!!Great FDE, most have great FDE but especially RealAir and FSD.As for the SMOOTH movement I think you're going to be disappointed, only default Fs9 have smooth gauges, at least in my list. However, if you're flying VFR and you realize the gauges are moving "laggy" it means you're staring too much at the panel and not actually flying VFR.If you want to fly IFR then I'd suggest some other kind of GA, perhaps a pressurized twin (C441, Aerostar or the upcoming Avanti) or even some small bizjets (Eaglesoft mostly).
October 26, 200421 yr The RealAir Simulations Siai-Marchetti SF.260 is one of my favorites. It has an excellent flight model, the bubble canope gives a great view, you can do some nice stunts with it, and it has enough range to be suitable for cross country flying. You can also toggle between the normal 2d panel and the IFR 2d panel. Oh, and the VC is quite good too.David

Gives you a wide variety of configurations to choose from.. taildragger, ski, float, amphib, etc.The Commander Project's AC500 has one of the best VCs, payware or freeware. Really, the standard I compare all other freeware against. For slow putting about, I'm a big fan of Brian Gladden's Tri-Pacer. Flies just like I remember the real life ones (granted, last I flew one wa 20 years ago) I liked this one so much, I created a nicer panel (both 2d and VC) for it, which can also be found at Avsim.Dan
October 26, 200421 yr Speaking of Brian Gladden, try his new Volpar Twin Beech. I have a few payware aircraft, but I always seem to end up flying this one.Smooth and you can land it anywere. Bob McDuff
October 27, 200421 yr If you are going for only one plane, get the RealAir Marchetti... it will bring a smile to your face! You can do aerobatics or just fly from here to there and the panel has the SMOOTH gauges you are looking for.If you want something more demanding, the Flight1 Meridian has the best cockpit in the business. More similar to your heavy iron, glass cockpit avionics and the best gauges (from Reality XP) included. If all you want is pretending you are renting a plane from your local airfield.. you can do a lot worse than the brand new Flight1 172.. absolutely top notch.. expect an Avsim review soon.. :-)If your budget allows... get all three! Bert
October 27, 200421 yr Took the words from my mouth. The RealAir SF.260 and Flight1 Meridian are simply awesome. Great handflyers. The SF.260 is very nimble and a blast to fly in the VC with TrackIR while it still cruises quick enough to do some touring in it. The Meridian is a very sophisticated GA turboprop single that is modeled very nicely. Comes with incredible avionics package from Reality XP and is now my default touring aircraft. If you're looking for more low and slow, the RealAir Scout package is a great deal, with taildragger and float included in the same package, along with grass strip scenery too. RealAir has to have the best flight models around...
October 28, 200421 yr Completely agree with the aircraft above, just thought I'd add a couple of more unusual ones have been flying recently:- Using Pedro Oliveira's replacement flight dynamics with the default C182 and C172. Needed to adjust thrust_scalar, elevator_sensitivity and aileron_sensitivity values in the aircraft.cfgs to personal taste and not sure how realisic flying them is (have no real flying experience) but at least to me they're great fun!!(http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=pedro+oliveira+cessna&CatID=fs2004)- A nice C152 freeware at francesim.com by Fravin (http://www.francesim.com/Recherche.aspx?Rech=cessna&SC=203&Type=1&Afr=0)
October 28, 200421 yr RealAir, Dreamfleet and Flight1 should be the first places to check. Anything by them is good. Be aware that RealAir planes (at least their SF260 and Scout which I have) have VC's with jerky gauge updates, but their 2D panels are nice and smooth. Also check out:http://www.aussim.com.au/piper/default.htmhttp://aerosoft-shop.com/product_info.php?...&products_id=40 (incredibly smooth VC)http://aerosoft-shop.com/product_info.php?products_id=52Freeware:http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=53489Maule from here:http://files.fsnordic.net/Flight_Simulator...neral_Aviation/ -
