I remember that during one of the Gulf wars a F15 came back from a mission with a wing more gone than there. Even the pilot was amazed. The explanation was that the air intake was a lifting body by design and provided just enough to allow the plane to fly. Great plane! Great design! Reminds me of some of the WWII aircraft that were shot to pieces and still made it home.
