It does already include some landclass improvements for Southeast Asia area  I believe.

 

Apologies, I was thinking more in terms of it's global attributes, but yes, you're right, from what I remember reading they have included an area for South East Asia.

I suspect UTX is going to remain the first choice where available, with OpenLC being the next best thing.

 

I don't think it's about choice and number 1 and 2 here because UTX and OpenLC are (will be) different addons. The ONLY thing they have in coming is landclass which is the main part of OpenLC but just a small part of UTX. UTX is more about roads, waters, railroads and that kind of 'vector data'. OpenLC won't have any of that vector data. Add to that the fact that OpenLC will come with extra textures (in addition to the FTXG textures: if you get all OpenLC regions you will have DOUBLED the amount of FTXG textures!) and you have two addons who 1. are completely different and 2. are both very good to have!

 

I own UTX Europe and I will certainly get OpenLC Europe. I don't fly anywhere else that often but the overall quality of FTXG might well help me to fly somewhere else every now and then. I won't need UTX for those flights but maybe I will get OpenLC for those flights, also because of the extra textures.

So Jeroen, if I want to use Scenery Tech's landclass for Europe, how does that work when I have Orbx England installed, as that has it's own LC?

I have been unimpressed with SceneryTech landclass products, especially the North America one.

It eliminates a lot of forest/woodland areas in the U.S and replaces much of it with inappropriate textures.

Over at ORBX they say the 7 openLC packs will be released in 2013/2014.  Hopefully they'll knock out Europe and North America before the end of this year.

Just make sure that Scenery Tech is below Orbx England in your Scenery Library. This will ensure that you're taking full advantage of Orbx England's landclass while having the rest of Europe uses Scenery Tech's landclass.

Don't count on ORBX releasing a proper landclass with the OLC's. They will upgrade your textures decreasing the repeating ones, you still need a landclass from a company that actually knows what they're doing in that respect.

 

 

To the Scenery Tech owner's of NA. I already own US National Landclass from FS Genesis, should I be getting the Scenery Tech's or are they both equivalent in quality?

Besides, Orbx has added new types of landclass that came with FSX but weren't used. And they will add specific textures too for each region. All of this won't be dealt with by current landclass addons because those have no clue about those new types: only OpenLC will be able to make the most out of it. It's expensive if you install it only to find that in the areas you fly it messes up as much as if fixes!
