Hey guys,

First of all, here is my rig:

Intel i7 3770k @ 4,2Ghz

Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB RAM

XFX Radeon HD 7970 3GB Graphics Card

Corsair H70i Liquid CPU cooler

Corsair Force Series SSD 128GB

Seagate Barracuda 1TB Hard Drive

Corsair HX750 Gold PSU

I mostly fly the PMDG 737, and here is a list of some of my addons i have installed:

REX Essentials

Active Sky 2012

PMDG 737

Ultimate Terrain Europe X

Ground Environment Extreme

Aerosoft Mega Airport Oslo X

Aerosoft Værnes X

Aerosoft Innsbruck X

Aerosoft Corfu X

Aerosoft Keflavik X

Aerosoft Mallorca X

ENBseries

Global AI Traffic

I am getting as low as 15FPS, and i can't understand why, it is a pretty high end system i'm running. Anyone know what i can do to get better FPS?

Thanks!

I don't worry about fps, I am more concerned about smoothness.  Are you getting pauses or stutters?

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

I have a high end system as well, I've applied all the tweaks, and I get lower than expected frames, got a feeling it could be my ai, but I'm just coming off a 12 hr night shift, on days off I'm gonna put together a report with screen shots and get some feedback, ill include pics of my setting, cfg file and a few screenies with details about my addons.

15 fps is normal with lots of those addons in certain combinations.

Yup. This is true. Biggest killer is large amount of AI at large Airports in PMDG aircraft with some weather going on. Especially with a lot of cars on the rods as well. Ground vehicles at large airports are a killer too. This is when you are very CPU restricted. Your video card is sitting around waiting. But I will help you. There is much you can do. I'll send you a PM....

But first.... Give us a rundown of your settings in FSX. I know its a pain but it will help. Also what level of AA you set in ATI driver? I presume you set to override? And 4, 8? Supersample? multi? Adaptive?

I have recently tested video cards and can attest to the ATI 7970 sitting around GTX680 performance in FSX.

There are some things ATI 79xx users can do to do even better.

To the OP... 15 fps all the time? I fly locked at 30 99% of the time.

I have a setup very similar to yours (edit: the biggest difference appears to be the video card; I have a GTX680). I only fly into and out of payware airports, and all I fly at the moment is the NGX and Majestic Dash 8 Q400. Ultimate Traffic 2 @ 100%, AS2012, FTX EU/Wales (waiting to pull the trigger on Global) and ProATC-X. I don't see frames any lower than the high teens in the ABSOLUTE WORST of circumstances (large busy payware airport with lots of traffic movement and heavy cloud cover). Otherwise, I'm locked at 30 FPS, and I stay there the majority of the time. I'll go down to the low 20's occassionally, but it's not noticable.

The secret for me: Word Not Allowed's FSX/P3D Hardware and Software blog. Folks on here have heard me say it a dozen times. I've found his guide to provide the most effective and systematic way of cracking FSX. This is especially true for those of using high-end systems, because we all seem to assume that the large price tag is all we need to endure to get rock solid performance.

My experiences mirror yours. Word Not Allowed did a good job of assembling the known tweaks into a coherent document with good facts.

There are some small differences in rules for ATI users though. One of which being the external framerate limiter. ATI likes the Radeonpro tools DFC (dynamic framerate control) tool. Higher fps and smoother.

I agree his guide does a great job of explaining what exactly each tweak does and what the results are supposed to be. So, you can try them one at a time and see what the results are *on your system* and decide whether or not the tweak makes a difference *for you*. Too many just throw in every tweak they can find in their .cfg file without understanding what they do.

I don't know how heavy all the add-ons mentioned are, but I've seen about 20 FPS on many occasions with OrbX airfields and some of the most FPS-hungry add-on airplanes on my 4770K @ 4.3 GHz and GTX 670. 15 FPS doesn't sound unreasonable.
