August 19, 201312 yr ........ the Islander has been completely forgotten! Flight1 do a great version of it... Yes, been flying the Flight 1 Islander today - definitely in the Top 10 add-on aircraft ever for me. Beautiful! @ MarkSC - Glad you went for the Carenado C208; every hauler' got to have one!
August 19, 201312 yr ... the Flight 1 Islander... definitely in the Top 10 add-on aircraft ever for me. Beautiful! +1 I just hope Flight1 are considering upgrading the cockpit to the new Islander Avionics suite or maybe releasing an "extended" version to compete with the new "Twotter" extended from Aerosoft Stuart Gilmour
August 19, 201312 yr Manfred Jahn's great Basler BT-67 is a great cargo hauler...and you can't beat the price...its free! B) "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Tejon 'TJ' Stanley
August 20, 201312 yr Moderator MarkSC, The 'Van's a good choice; you'll be very happy flying her and using her in AH. There's a reason so many bush air services all over the World use the 'Van; it works! The upholstery in your Legacy thanks you too...
August 20, 201312 yr Manfred Jahn's great Basler BT-67 is a great cargo hauler...and you can't beat the price...its free! You just want to get rid of the aux tanks so that the ai see that the plane can haul a real amount of cargo. Ryan L.
August 20, 201312 yr +1 I just hope Flight1 are considering upgrading the cockpit to the new Islander Avionics suite or maybe releasing an "extended" version to compete with the new "Twotter" extended from Aerosoft Yeah that would be good. Although to be honest, I have removed the KLN-90 GPS (using FS Panel Studio) and replaced it with the Reality XP 430 WAAS, but only as a 2D popup - I can't get the RXP 430 into the VC because the KLN-90 is a 3D model.
August 20, 201312 yr I didn't know about Air Hauler until today. I think I'm gonna give it a try... This + the C130 + the PMDG777 and GTA5 coming up... what am I gonna do with my life ? :Nerd: Nicolas Dumats
August 21, 201312 yr Thoroughly recommend Air Hauler. Caravan is almost a rite of passage aircraft for building up a modern AH company. Then stepping up to the Twotter makes a lot of sense. Milton's Aero Commander is lovely to fly but it doesn't haul a lot - if you want to 'fly Milton' the Avia is a better option (3000 + lbs capacity and you can even chose the float version if you have scenery with SPBs - like PNW or Pacific Fjords). Big haulers like the Herc cost a huge amount in AH, so you have to build up to them (hire additional AI pilots, open more bases, build reputation which in turns increases the $$$$ your jobs earn).
August 21, 201312 yr Author Yeah, what I love about Air Hauler is sense of purpose it brings to flying. I originally bought it because I wanted a way to fly around Europe using FTX Global and knew that Air Hauler would help pick routes for me from my chosen base in Chambery. What I didn't appreciate is that the program has so many details that add realism. At the hard or career difficulties, it can take a long time to earn enough to even afford a Caravan. I cheated a bit and used the medium difficulty. That starts you with the default Caravan, which you can then sell (at 50 percent discount) and lease an add-on Caravan or another plane. I also leased the Legacy just for some fun but unproftable flying. Once your in-game reputation grows, you can add AI pilots, which is the key to getting some economies of scale that may eventually allow you to buy some heavies. You can also take out bank loans once your reputation is high enough. There is an Air Hauler forum at Mutley's Hangar, which has a lot of good tips for the beginner. Read through that, and it will give you a good idea of what the game is about.
