August 23, 201312 yr Those of you playing Air Hauler or FSEconomy with GA aircraft in particular, what are your favorite locations for bases in terms of somewhere with interesting scenery and nice routes? The Orbyx regions obviously fit the bill, but I'm looking to try some other areas now that FTX Global has brought the world alive. My first base is in Chambery, France, which is great for flying around the Alps. My next will probably be in Italy. After that, though, I'd like to try some more exotic locals. Caribbean Islands? East Asia? Africa? I guess there is no reason this topic has to be limited to Air Hauler. In general, where is your favorite place to fly GA aircraft particularly with FTX Global?
August 23, 201312 yr The most fun I ever had with Air Hauler, was when I bought Pacific Island Simulations Marshall Islands and set up a company called "Air Marshall Cargo", based in the Marhsall Islands Capital (Majuro: PKMJ). I built up a fleet of 12 Cessna C185s, and 1 C208B and hauling cargo around the islands with that scenery was great fun
August 23, 201312 yr On my Air Hauler, I simulated a Druk Air company by opening a base in Paro and a base in Yongphulla. I currently have three AXE A320's in the Drukair Livery and an ATR-42 with a custom Drukair livery that I made for it, so it's a good simulation of the company. The A320s will be made into A319s when Aerosoft releases the A318/A319. It is also fun to open a base up in Norilsk, Russia if you have Aerosoft Norilsk X. I made S7 airlines and flew around near Novosibirsk and Norilsk area with B738s and A320s. August 23, 201312 yr Yeah, Paro, Bhutan, bring it on! ..... I too made AXE flights so many times, on that fab approach into Paro.....
August 23, 201312 yr I started a company at Lilydale, Victoria, Australia. It's an Orbx freeware airport. A King Air will fit, but it's not really that sort of airfield. Then I opened a base at Aeropelican near Newcastle. Eventually I closed Lilydale after opening a base at Essendon. One place I really wanted to make work was the Pacsim PNG bush trekker (one way strips at 8,000'), but sadly there were constant reports of crappy cargo damaging landings. Duncan did a fix after that though, but I haven't been back to try it. Mike Mike Dryden
August 23, 201312 yr The Carribean, on Puerto Rico airport called TJIG. I also have a base in SVMI. I have a Kingair, PC-12, two Dash 8s and a C208. I also had one in Northeast around Pennsylvania outside KPHL. There are some cool airports in NY nestled between some low lying mountain ranges. 10700k / Gigabyte 3060
August 24, 201312 yr +1 PNG Bush Trekker Spectacular scenery, variety and some challenging (and some insane) strips to deliver to.
August 24, 201312 yr Dave Romford What I'm up to: After a long break, I am back in the PMDG NGX, flying for ASky Airlines, out of Lome (Togo), West Africa. I'm flying to Benin, Ghana, Equitorial Guinea, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Liberia, and Cameroon. FTX Global looks pretty good here! Looks like even more good ideas right there in your sig Dave. August 24, 201312 yr Author Somehow I've missed getting the Pacsim sceneries. They seem really good, and PNG Bush is definitely on my buy list. The Appalachia one seems like good value too for a base in that area.
August 24, 201312 yr I don't have Air Hauler (yet ?) but I'd suggest if you have OrbX Autralia to add the OzX airfields and use Alice Springs as a hub. You then have about 15 desert strip destinations in a 60 to 200 miles range. There's is no nav aid (except YBAS VOR) and the strips are not listed in the FSX database (no GPS).You have long/latt coordinates and you can pin them into Google Earth, it's then dead reckoning all the way. OzZ did a great job and the small airfield are kinda nice. Good luck. And, oh yeah, take enough fuel, you may get lost Dominique Simming since 1981 - [email protected] GHz with 16 GB of RAM and a 1080 with 8 GB VRAM running a 27" @ 2560*1440 - Windows 10 - Warthog HOTAS - MFG pedals - MSFS Standard version with Steam
August 24, 201312 yr I'm currently upgrading my fleet from props to jets so I hope you don't mind if I jump in. I have one of my bases in KJAC (Orbx scenery). The field elevation is 6451ft (1966m). This makes flying quite tricky, especially takeoffs. Wrong flap setting (with heavy payload) and you won't lift off until crossing the piano keys at the end of the runway Jarkko Puustinen (FSX live streamer, YouTuber) http://www.twitch.tv/virtualfreightdog http://www.youtube.com/user/VirtualFreightDog
August 24, 201312 yr Victor Air Cargo is presently based at Kerema on the south coast of Papua New Guinea. I used Pacific Island Sim's wonderful Raw Grit scenery package ( it combines 'PNG Bush Pilot' and 'Extreme Bush Trekker' sceneries into one ). Kerema is a good location to start with, and when you can afford the higher rentals, you can relocate to Port Moresby, with Australia to the south, the Solomons to the east and Indonesia and the Philippines up north / west. Plenty of interesting flying to be had. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
August 25, 201312 yr Paul, given your Kerema base, you might want to get the (free) pack of Torres Strait islands available from OzX. Nice little stepping-stones to get from PNG across to the tip of Queensland if you have small or STOL aircraft. I had a base at Bulolo - good tarmac strip in a lovely setting - and another at Hoskins on New Britain (big island between PNG 'mainland' and the Solomons. 'Raw Grit' is by far the best value for money Pacsim add-on. Appalachia is a nice set of airfields, but you only get textures for the immediate surrounds. PNG is the whole country (especially if you also get the (free) Holgermesh for PNG (also from OzX), with 40-odd airstrips from beaches to mountain tops and everything in between.
